Whisk: a Sustainable Bakeshop is a local, made-from-scratch and small batch bakery located in Saint Louis, Missouri. Using local ingredients, we create traditional and not-so-traditional baked goods for everyone to enjoy - including vegan, gluten-free, and allergen-free treats. Whisk originated as Farm Fresh Cupcakes in early 2011. Working out of a commercial kitchen in downtown Saint Louis, Kaylen Wissinger was able to create cupcakes and cake balls at a low cost with little overhead to sell at farmers markets and for private events.

(our new logo!)

Since then, our business has grown to the point of needing a new space. It's important to us that the bakery be in a walkable area of Saint Louis. We were looking for a community of like-minded residents and business owners and a welcoming place that would be easy for customers to find and enjoy.

We found the perfect space on Cherokee Street. It's the right size for our bakery, located within a fast-growing community.

Supporting and funding this project will allow us to:

+ renovate our building. There are walls that need be knocked down, some new lighting needs be installed, a hood and vent system needs to be purchased and installed, and a lot of painting needs to happen. We also need some serious signage that will draw our customers into the bakeshop.

+ make our building as sustainable as possible. We're talking about used EnergyStar-rated equipment, recycled/reused/renewable building materials, low-VOC paints, 100% CFL bulbs, etc. FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT WHISK'S SUSTAINABILITY, PLEASE CLICK HERE. It's better for the environment and it will help keep our costs down.

+ support local, organic farmers and artisan producers that create all the fruits, veggies, honey, jams, bacon, flours, peanut butter, and dairy products (and more!) that we use in our baked goods. The name Farm Fresh Cupcakes comes from our business philosophy: as many ingredients as possible come from farmers markets, artisan producers and small business owners right here in Saint Louis.

+ ensure a steady supply of baked goods to the amazing, kind, and beautiful people of Saint Louis and beyond, rescuing everyone from the evil clutches of artificial baked goods!

+ expand our line of baked goods. Whisk won't just be cupcakes. There are pies, cakes, popsicles, and perhaps most exciting of all, DOUGHNUTS, to be had! That's right - Saint Louis will have its first artisan doughnut joint, complete with local ingredients and vegan and gluten-free options. Think: chocolate hazelnut, maple bacon and red velvet cake doughnuts. Whisk will be your one-stop sugar rush.

+ receive all the new licenses, permits, inspections, insurance upgrades and application fees so we can fully function healthfully, happily and in accordance with the city.

+ create a Whisk CSD (community-supported desserts) that happy customers can buy a subscription to, ensuring that they receive yummy baked goods weekly or bi-weekly.

Exceeding our goal means even better equipment, more recipe testing (which turns into more treats for you!), and even more opportunities for Whisk in the future.

(this is me, in the throes of cupcake-slingin' at the Tower Grove Farmer's Market in 2011)

So, thank you for stopping by. Having lived in Saint Louis my entire life, I truly believe I could not have asked for a better place to settle down and work on my dream. I hope that you, dear readers, consider supporting this cause. It would be the best gift I could ever receive - and even if you can't, just passing the word along to your friends and family would mean the world to me.

I'm investing a lot of my own money into this business, but I need some help to complete the final, official step of really, really opening a bakeshop.

Thank you again for helping me spread the gospel of good, natural food! And as always, please message me with any questions you may have.
