About our pops
Hi guys! For five years, we've been rolling out house-made, hyper-local, from-scratch ice pops in flavors like strawberry rhubarb, sweet corn, cucumber lime, concord grape, lavender lemonade, chai latte, and everyone's favorite - goat cheese ANYTHING. We've been doing this the old-fashioned way, by freezing our pop mixes in plastic molds and stacking them in our stand-up freezers, then waiting 10-12 hours for them to completely harden so they can be unmolded, wrapped and brought to you, using lots of dry ice we had to buy the day before.
A new day is here...
We have an ice pop TRUCK! It's a 1984 AM General that hauled mail for years and years. But now it's ours, and we're outfitting it to take our fancy ice pops all over the area. Want us for your wedding? We're there. Company picnic? We're pumped to be all over it. Sick of getting to the Tower Grove Farmers' Market too late to catch a blueberries & cream pop? Well - with the truck, this won't be an issue anymore. We recently purchased a new ice pop machine that allows us to make the same amount of pops in an hour, that we used to be able to make in a day.
Why are we crowdfunding?
With having a truck on the streets, we need to upgrade our old-school equipment a bit - and that's where you come in! We're in the market for a cold-plate freezer cart for the truck (~$4,000). We'll plug it in at the shop, then it holds a cold freeze for 10-12 hours - on no electricity! We can load it up with hundreds of pops for markets, deliveries, weddings, office parties, block parties and even just traipsing around the city. You may hear our unique jingle rolling down your block!
The remaining money will go towards outfitting and legalizing the truck so we can hit the streets. We're committed to working with as many local pals as possible to get our girl ready to roll. The truck needs a ton of cosmetic work, inside and out, along with extensive repairs under the hood. And after it's up and running, we'll be wrapping it (with design work by local artist Caitlin Metz) and getting it legal at City Hall. Then we'll be ready to come to you with all the ice pops you could ever desire!
Poptimism by Whisk is the newest chapter in our book. We love St. Louis and are so excited to be bringing our love to the streets, food truck events and local festivals. We'll see ya out there!
Risks and challenges
As with any used car, there's the potential that we could run into some issues with the truck. It's pretty old and hasn't been used regularly. However, we're confident that we have some really great mechanics lined up to help us with any issues that arise.
It will take some adjusting to get used to our new ice pop system, but once everything is installed and in place, we hope it's smooth sailing! Even if it isn't, we have our handy dandy old-school methods as a back-up.
Other than that, we're feeling optimistic about Poptimism! Whisk has been in existence for almost six years. We continue to grow each year and hope that trend continues upward.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
