Hello groovy peoples, my name is Jasmine Clark and this is my story. I have always had a flurry of creative stories in my head since I was a child. I wrote my first book in my early teens, and published one book, Amazons of the Myst in 2013. However, it was a very intensive learning experience. With this new novel, Journey's End, I hope to learn from my mistakes and make it a success. I have always said that if I truly want something, I go for it until it is achieved. That is why I am here now on Kickstarter. I want to have the funds available to polish and prepare a suitable book for readers to enjoy.
How the funds will be used:
The total amount I need to hopefully and successfully publish, is $5,000.
1. I will be using the printing press/services of Lulu.com They have a package deal which includes; editors, cover designers, layout designers, and marketing services, so that I can have what I need to be a self published author. You can look at the website here: http://www.lulu.com/create/publishing-services
The total cost for that is approximately: $2,999.
2. To provide my backers with perks and rewards, such as letters, and autographed pictures to name a few, I need funds to make sure I can send such items anywhere in the United States and overseas.
The total cost for that is approximately: $500
3. The last amount would cover any other fees, such as additional copies of books, any storage fees for maintaining the books, and additional costs for any extra services from Lulu.com. Since I am going to be self publishing, I do not have the luxury of having a company manage or store my books. I have to have the funds to ship books to my own home, or store most of the books in a storage facility. Therefore, the funds from this section will cover these costs.
The total cost for this is approximately: $1,500.
Since I am not tech savvy, I do not have a video detailing the book, Journey's End. I will provide a synopsis here!
The story is about a young girl named Naran (pronounced Nuh-rahn). She is a quiet 11 year old who lives in the fictional world of Dera. There, she has a humble life as a villager. In the backdrop of the story is an ongoing war between Naran's country of Davol, and a nameless enemy, named the enemy.
She lives with her parents and younger sister, but has an older sister that her parents do not acknowledge. The story takes off when her family is killed. She sets out on a journey to find her sister, and run away from the invasion taking part in her home country. There, she meets a young man named Gan, and a flurry of other characters.
The idea of Journey's End is to take the reader on a journey along with the character Naran. Her growth and life change during the course of the story. There are many challenges she faces along the way. Her sense of self, and idealistic views of others, shift over time. This is not a conventional book or typical coming of age book. The idea is to take a fictional person, along with a fictional world, and bring realistic aspects of how one deals with a variety of events. People think of a journey being linear or even singular. However, the idea is that life is long. Perhaps at this time you may go through one particular path in life. Yet, when that part or journey is finished, a new one begins.
This novel, Journey's End, is about one path this character takes. There are elements of adventure, drama, and violence, along with sensuality. Therefore, this is not marketed as a children's or young adult fiction book. I do stress that my novels are for the more eccentric of readers. It is a 17 chapter, 289 page, 74,000 word book. It's fast paced and very interesting to read. I hope that if the funds are successful, you will be able to read it and enjoy.
Until then, look at the website: journaljazzi.com
Go into the tab, Journey's End, to read an excerpt and the first chapter from the book. I want the backers to know what they are supporting. I also thank you for your time and hope to bring you something soon!
Risks and challenges
With anything I do, I plan. I look at the big picture and I think. However, unfortunate things happen. I will use the package deal I mentioned above from Lulu.com, but it might not cover printing 300 books to sell. In that case, I added a third section above (approximately $1,500) to cover those costs.
In the event that there are shipping fees associated with sending the books to my home, or storing the books, I have already calculated those fees within the third section mentioned above.
As far as sending rewards. I have extended the shipping date far beyond what I may need to ensure that there is ample time to send such items. If the editing process, or printing process takes longer than expected, I will inform the backers as soon as I am aware.
I want this book to be a success and I do rely on the contributions and support from backers. Therefore, I will try to keep every part of the process on kickstarter as updates. Anything personally related to specific backers, will be sent through private message.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
