Exiled from civilization, a young murderer waits for his wife, a reckless runaway who leaves everything behind to follow him. After braving punishment, death, and the unknown, she arrives. But now pitted against a terrifying and endless desert environment, two lovers realize they are complete strangers as banishment begins to tear them apart.
EXILES is a brutal and atmospheric addendum to the greatest love story of all time. What if the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet wasn't that they died... but that they lived?
"I will follow thee throughout the world ... Forgetting any home but this."
True Love is a dream sold to us at a young age. It will be easy, it will be beautiful. But to truly love someone is work and sacrifice. Every time I read Romeo and Juliet I can't help but feel like I'm being lied to. These great lovers, these heroes of romance were never given a real run. They were never tried or tested. And I believe the love that they were so ready to die for, could never have lasted if they lived.
To tell this story I went to some of my closest collaborators with whom I have worked on a number of plays under the umbrella of our theatre company, The Casitas Group. It seemed fitting that we bring a theatre pillar such as Romeo and Juliet to the screen, but we wanted to do it our way. Set against the hostile and unforgiving high desert of Mantua we are shooting the stunning natural landscape of the California desert.
We have assembled a dedicated team of collaborators, completed pre-production and now all we need is you.
