New goal: $2000!
Now that my project is successfully funded (hip-hoorah, hip-huree!), it's time to move on to my next fundraising goal: $2000! This will allow me to add some very excellent elements to the launch party-- more whimsical distribution methods for poems, good snacks, a good party locale, and a hot air balloon.
Like, a real hot air balloon.
Please help me spread the word and get people excited-- $2000!!
With your help, on July 27th I will launch my poems into the atmosphere to glide down unexpectedly into the lives of strangers.
I have been writing poetry for more than ten years now, and I want to share my poetry with others, so I am trying a pretty non-conventional form of print distribution—I am hoping to launch at least five large tissue paper balloons that look like this, baskets full of my poems and contact information folded into paper airplanes. When the balloons get high enough, those baskets will tip, and send my poems sailing down to random people. Hopefully, those people will contact me, giving me a rare and wonderful way to interact with my reader. I will be using the cherry-spoon in Minneapolis as my launch location.
The culmination of this event will be the collection of poetry that I compile into my chapbook. (Check the FAQ for an article detailing exactly what a chapbook is and where the term comes from-- basically, it is a small collection of poetry which is usually hand-bound). This book will contain all of the poems that I write for the event. It may additionally include essays I write about the event, the stories of people who contact me after finding my poems, pictures from the event, illustrations, or any number of other exciting things.
As I have pursued poetry over the last several years, it has become an ever more important part of my philosophy that creativity and art are inherently good for people. With this project, I want to bring my own art unexpectedly into the lives of strangers, and to make meaningful connections with them.
If you can, I urge you to donate. I am so very in love with this project, and I can't wait to put it on-- but I cannot make that happen without the support of my family, friends, and soon-to-be friends. I have lots of ideas to make this event fun and meaningful for everyone involved. Please help me share it!
What is a chapbook?
A chapbook is a short collection of poetry that is published in small batches, and often made by hand. For more information, check out this article-- it's pretty interesting!
Will this project harm the environment?
No. I am going to great lengths to ensure that this project will do no harm at all to the environments where my balloons/poems may land, or the little critters that inhabit those places. All products used will be easily biodegradable and harmless throughout the biodegrading process-- tissue paper, elmers glue, etc.
Can I donate if I do not have an Amazon account?
In order to make a donation to Kickstarter, you do need to have or create an Amazon account. It is a very quick process. If you have any questions or concerns about this part of the process, please contact me (email@example.com) and we will figure out a way for you to donate.
