Most Americans don’t realize that 97% of all textile products on the market are made overseas, and nearly all that production comes from Asia.
Approximately 85% of the 40 million garment workers worldwide are women, and they rarely have the same rights or protections that we do in the west.
We want to change all that by connecting you to the person who made your products and the place that they come from.
By supporting our Kickstarter, you are saying you care about where your products come from and how people are treated along their journey to make it into your hands.
Every product we buy has made a journey from the makers hands into our own, but that journey is rarely transparent.
Too often, they are exploiting their workers or trade partners, and they would rather that you, the customer, not think too much about the hands that made their products.
For our artisans, a salary is so much more than a wage.
It empowers them, gives them a sense of dignity and purpose and gives them freedom to be independent of the men in their lives. They always greet us with big, enthusiastic smiles and are happy and proud that we value them and their handicraft traditions.
Our vision is for everyone in the textile goods manufacturing industry to have the chance to work under the same conditions as our artisans.

Deepest gratitude to our Nepali and American families who have shown their support to bring Kathmandu Yogi to life (Pictured from left to right: Alina Carreno, Shanti Shakya, Hem Shakya, America Ulmo and Antonio Navas).
Kathmandu Yogi is the “mind” child of global citizen and yogi, Natasha Casanova.
While visiting Kathmandu in 2012 she made brilliant and extraordinary connections and was deeply inspired by the Nepali way of life; not placing much emphasis in material goods, actively practicing generosity, finding fulfillment and joy in interpersonal relationships, and most of all not putting energy into limitations.
Never had she heard the phrase “Why not?” so much in her life!
She decided that her new Nepali friends would become her co-conspirators in helping make tools for meditation more readily accessible to westerners.
Kathmandu Yogi was founded with a strong wish that the company’s activities would benefit many, promote cultural exchange, and foster conscious development.
There is dual benefit to shopping with Kathmandu Yogi.
You not only receive inspiring tools that aid you along with your meditation and mindfulness practices, but also provide an opportunity to support people across the globe, who kept these precious practices alive for centuries and today live in one of the world’s poorest nations (#19 in the world, #1 in Asia).
As her teacher says, “Meditation is mind’s gift to itself.”
It’s the gift with the potential to transform not just one’s own life, but also that of others.

Risks and challenges
Kathmandu Yogi manufactures its custom-designed products in Nepal and distributes them in America through yoga and wellness lifestyle businesses as well as online through its website.
Our customers resoundingly praise the quality and uniqueness of our products and are glad about supporting our mission and company values. As such, you can rest assured that the rewards you choose when backing our project will be delivered in a timely fashion with the highest level of quality.
There are some unique challenges that we face by choosing to manufacture our products in Nepal. Nepal is one of the poorest and most underdeveloped nations in the world. The country loses power on a daily basis and also lacks the technology and infrastructure readily available in developed countries. On top of that, Nepal had several major earthquakes last year that wreaked havoc on the country. Infrastructure issues resulting in disruptions in the supply chain or major catastrophic events such as natural disasters could delay distribution of merchandise to our backers.
We have been working under these conditions since our company's inception in 2014, so are confident in our ability to navigate even the most challenging of conditions. We modify and adapt our internal deadlines and expectations so that they are in accordance with the conditions where we manufacture.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
