My name is Kathe Welch.
I am an artist, art teacher, writer and farmer without a tractor. I finished my first book The Last Monkey in 2017 and I am ready to make the next one. For this book, I need collaborators.
I am proposing to illustrate sentences for you. I will write the sentences or illustrate yours. I will combine the ideas of a bunch of my backers and turn them into one story (or maybe three shorter stories).
I have a few ideas already started, but I want to get some other artist/writers involved in what I think will be a fun experiment for me and hopefully for you.
Now I am looking to you. You decide.

In The Last Monkey, I wanted the reader to zoom through the text while focusing on a picture to illustrate the idea. I broke the text down to small chunks – mostly one sentence each – to facilitate a quick read and to give myself more to draw. It is available on Amazon.
Now it is time to work on the next book!
The finished book will be a perfect bound softcover graphic novel. It will include all of the drawings from backers' sentences plus a few extra if needed to make the story work. It will be 100+ pages in black and white with a few color images. And it will include a list of sentence contributors and a special thanks to all backers!

- I illustrate your sentence [of up to 50 words] on 6 x 8 archival paper in black ink. I send it to you. YOU LOVE IT!
If you become a backer, you will send me a sentence. Don’t worry about it right now. You will share it in the survey when this project closes. I will illustrate your sentence and send you the original. I will incorporate your drawing into the story.

Risks and challenges
I have previously self-published a book. It is a lot of work, but I know how to do it. I have added in extra time to give myself the flexibility to finish the drawings, and I have the skills to get it done.
The risks are that it still may take me longer than I anticipated, but I think I can do this project in time. Worst case? I am five minutes late.
Best case -- done early and better than any of us expected.
Either way, an excellent book will join the world of books.
