Katherine Sabbath - Greatest Hits - The Pop Edition
Hey there pals! My name is Katherine Sabbath. I’m a high school History and Geography teacher, a proud home baker and passionate merrymaker from Sydney, Australia. I need your help to launch my most exciting project yet. An entertaining, interactive, visually stunning and incredibly practical idea which will enrich and support our creative and home baking community, WORLDWIDE!
Due to overwhelming support on social media (thank you!) I’ve since moved on from high school teaching - nearly two years ago now - to focus on the ‘Cake Life’ full time, by teaching cake workshops, recipe developing and baking as many people’s days as I can! Throughout this journey, I’ve been taking good notice and it’s becoming more and more apparent that many lovely people have been asking for a cookbook! So, I’ve devoted my next chapter of ‘Cake Life’ to honour this request for a book and ensure that it not only meets the needs of us home baking enthusiasts, but surpasses all of your expectations.
Since 2013, I’ve been working on this idea, and then, at the beginning of 2016, I joined creative forces with a highly talented Sydney-based team to finally bring my vision to life, and its even better than what I envisaged…Testimony to the power of creative collaboration! Our project has been conceptualised, designed, created and tested right here in Sydney, Australia! I’d love to introduce you to our team of cool cats:
Tracy Lines: Creative Director, Publishing Consultant & Producer
Benja Harney AKA Paperform: Artist & master of paper engineering
Nikki To: Renowned food photographer & my best friend
Alicia Sciberras: Stylist & my hometown friend
Jeremy Shaw: Videographer & my legend-of-a-mate
And me, Katherine Sabbath! The author, recipe developer & teacher.
As a team, we’re bringing you an interactive, entertaining, and immersive 3-dimensional ‘book’. This is most definitely not your ‘traditional’ cookbook! It’s a POP UP ART BOOK (yippie!) which also contains a full set of comprehensive RECIPE CARDS. This enables you to happily cook and make a good ol’ mess whilst keeping your beautiful book all sparkly clean. Home bakers will be able to recreate all of my most well-known cakes & recipes (hence the name, Greatest Hits!). The high-quality recipe cards are designed, for functional, everyday use in the kitchen, whilst the book itself is a beautiful art piece. Every cake featured also comes with it's own story, revealing my inspiration behind each creation. A keepsake of dessert inspiration and paper engineering to both admire and display!
I share my passion by teaching workshops, hosting cake demonstrations and sharing my recipes, ideas and tips online. Making a book of my own and sharing the process of it with others seemed like a natural progression. As a team, we are challenging the conventions of traditional cookbooks and through creative collaboration have come up with a unique and original publication, with which we’re very proud! I have cherished the opportunity to work with some of my closest friends and talented local creatives. Thus, crowdfunding felt like a natural fit in this process, where you too can be part of this journey. I view this whole process, and the possibilities it is creating as a huge privilege and am proud to know that as a team, we’re bringing something fantastic to life, from start to finish. And of course, we’d love to share this with you!
Friends, please help us change the way we experience home baking and traditional cookbooks. Let’s enrich both the home baking and the creative community with this one-of-a-kind publication. Cookbooks are expensive to produce. Moreover, every single one of these cookbooks is a hand-assembled, 3-dimensional publication, featuring paper engineering of exceptional quality. Our goal of $227,000 for a first print run of 5,000 copies will cover:
Thank you SO much to everyone who has helped support our book so far! In order to share the joys of the "Cake Life" even further, we would love to produce 10,000 copies of Katherine Sabbath - Greatest Hits - The Pop Edition. In order to do this, our stretch goal is : $335,000
To reduce your costs, I have worked extra, EXTRA hard over the past year and put all of my money into savings in order to pay for:
- 7 months worth of wages (the amount of time I’ve spent so far in bringing this unbelievable project to life)
- Ingredients (for testing and re-testing of all recipes)
- Tools, kitchen equipment and decorating supplies
- Project management support
Risks and challenges
We have already made a number of prototypes of the book to make sure the paper engineering, printing, binding, recipe cards and covers turn out to our unique specifications. We will have the first edition produced by a leading printing house and the process will be supervised closely by our team. We have hired the most reputable and timely printers and distributors to mitigate all potential risks. The books will be shipped to a third party logistics company that will manage global logistics. We have also built enough buffer into our timeline to allow for delays and to ensure timely delivery. However, if we encounter an unexpected challenge and are running behind schedule, you will be the first to know.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
