We’re artists, advocates, curators, and exhibitors. We seek out the most audacious, weird, and beautiful digital art and get people in front of it.
What can we say, we have a rebellious streak. We want to throw a hack party in the Guggenheim. Install micro-controllers inside diamond skulls. We think the gallery world should just be slightly more fun. We think we can accomplish a part of that with huge hearts and a fist-full of wire.
MediaLounge is on a mission to blow minds. We're sticking cutting edge artists, art works and advocates into the same space and shaking it up. We're going to put tools in the hands of the public by hosting workshops from the very people who are developing award winning software and hardware that make digital art possible. We're going to scream from the rooftops that new media art is fine art, damn fine art.
We're going to fill the Westbeth Gallery with the wildest art it's ever seen. Those empty rooms won't know what hit them!
Calls went out. Emails were sent. Panels convened. In the end we selected a cracker-jack group of artists to present to you in November. This year's work is alternatively cheeky, innovative, and heartbreakingly beautiful. Presenting the 2015 MediaLounge roster! Click on each to be directed to their project page on medialoungenyc.com.
From 2009-2010 MediaLounge presented the work of over 100 artists. We gave them time, space, and resources to realize their visions. Uncoiled, ran, tangled, struck, untangled, and coiled over 500,000 miles of cables. We hung kinects, cameras, contact switches, and iR. And lugged projectors on subways all across New York City. Some people might have called it bleeding edge. We just called it fun.
We’re ambitious. We want to bring you the best of the best. We want our artists to feel supported by more than just enthusiasm! We’ve got the space and a foundation of funds to put on a spectacular show. But we can’t do it alone.
It’s not easy to ship interactive artwork from Spain, or finance travel so all of you can meet the amazing creators of this work. As any organizer will tell you, events cost time and money. We’re throwing in the time, the space, the staff...we need your help with the money.
Here are a few things your donations will go towards:
Travel and housing: We’ve got artists, workshop leads, and panelists coming in from all over the world. Let’s get them here and make them feel at home!
Shipping: Some works are heavy and very far away. Let’s get them to NYC!
PR Materials: It’s going to be a kick-ass production and we want a diverse crowd to witness this happening. Let’s get the word out in a big way!
Equipment: Many artists build and show their work on their own tools. While this is fine for prototyping In a long term exhibit like this it’s a lot to ask the artists to leave their valuables behind. Let’s provide them with the best tools.
Awesome support team: MediaLounge has an amazing team of volunteers that are making this machine work. Let’s get them a little green for their steam!

Risks and challenges
Putting on an event is quite an undertaking. Putting on an event that last for a month is an even bigger beast. We're going to jump in head first and support these awesome arts, but there will be problems that pop up along the way. However, we are seasoned designers, coders, and, organizers. Concurring those issues is part of what helps us thrive. We'll look at each issue that arise as a welcome puzzle to solve.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
