The Happy Ending is a new musical satire with original score by Brent Hill and book and lyrics by Kate Revz. Help get it to Broadway by supporting the July workshop.
The Happy Ending is a toe-tapping new musical about a magical faraway kingdom that looks a lot like Hollywood California. It centres around the newest it-girl, Princess Chrysanthemum who is set to marry Prince Justin in a big, flashy, televised royal wedding. But for the mother of the groom and reigning Queen, Snow White, this means retirement and giving up the crown, something she is not prepared to do.
Armed with her last remaining dwarf, Lonely and a Poison Appletini, Snow White sets out to ensure the wedding never happens and the bride is banished into obscurity. When Chrysanthemum wakes up after her bachelorette party on the wrong side of town, she goes on a journey of discovery in an attempt to get home in time for her big day, meeting a lot of very familiar characters along the way.
The Happy Ending is a fun, irreverant and modern musical that looks at the way the stories we grew up with were told, and what it means to be a post Disney-movie adult.
With your help, we will hold a two-week workshop of the show with the kick-ass creative team and top actors and musicians to work the material and get it up on its feet. The workshop will culminate in an industry showcase where we can share our work and get constructive feedback from our peers and other theatre artists.
Where will the money go? On talent! We need to hire a cast of performers, a choreographer, a designer, a rehearsal pianist a stage manager and musicians. Not forgetting a rehearsal space, printing and sound equipment.
Wanna come to the Industry Showcase? Pledges of $250 and over get you an invitation (plus guest) to join us at the showcase to see the first staged reading of The Happy Ending! See all incentives to the right →
Risks and challenges
The Broadway world is a vicious one. New material gets one chance to make a good impression. We want to make sure our show is worked, worked and re-worked into the best version it can be before we take it to the broadway "big-shots". The only way to know if a piece of musical theatre works is to get it up in its tap shoes. We want to hold a full-scale workshop with performers, musicians and full creative team to test the script and songs and get some valuable feedback from industry professionals.
