WE MADE IT!
Thank you thank you thank you so much to everyone who has backed us - your support is overwhelming and we appreciate it from the bottoms of our hearts! Now that we have made our goal, we will finally be able to finish this passion project 2 years in the making!
PUSH GOALS: For those of you who haven't pledge yet but still want to support, we can still really use any extra funds above our goal. Here's what the extra money would go towards:
$5,500 - We can now afford our insurance policy for our 4-day shoot!
$6,000 - We can pay our crew/cast on a non-deferral basis - meaning we can pay our hard-working crew/cast members a small stipend for their time/energy/talents right away.
$6,500 - We can now rent a cargo van to carry all of our equipment, instead of shoving into several small cars. Yay for head-room!
$7,000 - These funds will go towards raising our very small arts budget (props, costumes, hair & make-up, etc.) and camera/light/grip rental so that we can have a better quality product.
$7,500 - Now we can afford to hire a colorist to make the finished product look amazing and pay for festival submittal fees!
"Are You Afraid of the ‘90s?" is an upcoming comedic independent short film starring Heather Matarazzo (Saved!, Princess Diaries, Welcome to the Dollhouse) and Kristine Sutherland (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Honey I Shrunk the Kids!). We are currently in pre-production and seeking funds to help us complete the film. We plan to shoot the full 18-minute film at the end of April 2014.
Kate's hometown newspaper, The West Seneca Bee, just wrote an article all about the film - check it out here!
Jessica Russo (Matarazzo) is 26, unemployed, and living with her parents again. Deep in the thralls of a quarter-life crisis, Jess finds herself being haunted by her beloved ‘90s childhood, as her once-cherished toys begin to take on a life of their own!
My producers and I are hard at work finding every way we can to save, but to shoot this film how we really want to shoot it and to pay our talented crew at least a small stipend for all of their hard work, we actually would need about $12,500.
However, with our current savings (and some major hustlin'), if we raise $5,000, we could shoot this film. As you know, we can only cash in on our Kickstarter donations if we reach our goal. If not, you are never charged and we end up back at square one!
Here's how it all breaks down:
That being said, if we surpass our goal - well, the entire cast and crew would be pretty thrilled and we could get the equipment we need!
We have been developing this awesome and hilarious film for over a year. Here are just a few of the things we've accomplished so far:
- Cast 3 of the 6 roles in the film with
extraordinarily talented actresses (Heather Matarazzo, Kristine Sutherland, and
Chelsea Marino). More casting announcements to come!
- Secured product placement deals with Ring Pops, Push Pops, Mondo, and Bagel Bites.
- Obtained clearances with Hasbro (Furby, Nerf, Skip-It) and Bandai (Tamagotchi).
- Secured locations in Nesconset, Long Island (shout-out to Jon & Judy for graciously lending us their home!)
- Assembled several incredibly talented crew and creative team members. (See below for more about our team!)
- Shot and edited a trailer for the film to give you a better idea of our vision (see above).
- We have also created our own LLC and obtained fiscal sponsorship through Fractured Atlas (a 501(c)(3) organization)
We are so close to finally seeing our dreams come to fruition but we can't do it without the financing to support us.

Other roles TBA - stay tuned for more announcements!
SO WHY THE '90s?
A record number of recent college graduates have had to move back into their parents’ homes due to financial reasons within the last 5 years. We believe that this trend has had a strong influence on the growing popularity of '90s nostalgia. This film looks at these issues in a new way, through bold and hilarious satire, while providing a sincere connection to the audience with its heartfelt honesty.
WHAT'S THE PLAN AFTER YOU SHOOT?
Once we complete the film, we plan to submit to all of the major national and international film festivals, and eventually seek digital distribution. With our cast, script, crew, and vision, as well as the timeliness of this subject, the potential for this film is limitless. However, this film cannot even exist without your generous support.
