About this project
The first frames made with compression molding combining 75% recycled jeans and 25% bio resin.
The Clothing Collection is inspired and influenced by different native Chilean birds. It’s feathers, colours and unique appearance reminds us of the importance of being conscious of how we dress.
Even though the Chucao is best known for its sound than its size, it’s one of the most emblematic birds in southern Chile.
The Loica is known for its round and red chest, which inflates to attract the attention of its partner who’s always by its side.
The Kuru, also known as the Black Woodpecker, is recognized by the classic sound when pecking the truncks of the trees and its colourful crest.
We work exclusively with Zeiss official lenses, offering 100% protection for UVA/UVB radiation, maximum clarity & optimum protection for your eyes.
- Visual clarity: Avoid visual fatigue thanks to low haze and high material transparency.
- ZEISS optics are guaranteed with more than 165 years of experience in the optical field.
All our models include a jeans hardcase and a 100% recycled cardboard packaging.
*A survey for your model (Chucao, Loica or Kuru) and lens choice (Grey, brown or optical) will be sent once the campaign has ended.
Together with our partners Balloon Latam we are proving that this harmful form of waste can become a source of income for local rural entrepreneurs in Patagonia so they can scale their sustainable businesses and create economic opportunities that can empower their own communities.
Funds from this collection are directly contributing to scaling rural entrepreneurships in Patagonia through our partners at Balloon Latam.
A part of the funds from each sunglasses will be directly destined for the entrepreneurs in the Llanquihue Lake basin, Chile.
Balloon Latam is an enterprise for the latinamerican society, contributing to the development of local economies through the strengthening of its entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems. To achieve that, several different social innovation programmes are carried out in each destination, generating shared value creation instances and fostering endogenous innovation, while being respectful of each community’s particular reality, their identity, historicity, cultural conditions and productive development possibilities.
Karün is an eyewear company based in Chile formed by people sharing values about a way of life in harmony with the planet. We don't consider ourselves to be just a company. Companies are nothing more than the sum of the people in it and the common dream they share. Everything we do is a reflection of the dream of a great group of people sharing similar values and way of life. We are working as hard as we can to prove through example that we can change the way we interact with ourselves and our planet. Love is what guides us in every decision and we are committed to work through collaboration, empathy and transparency in everything we do.
We thank our great partners at Shear Composites who have been working very hard to make this proyect a reality through their signature Denimite material. Their passion, expertise and commitment is what we need if we want a change in the world.
Karün means “to be nature” in native Chilean language (Mapudungun) and comes from the wilderness of Patagonia, a remote and virgin region where nature blossoms and inspires our designs, values and way of working.
Risks and challenges
Thanks to the tremendous support provided by our industry partners and advisors, we believe we have done everything we can to mitigate the remaining risks and challenges for this project. We have taken our production setup and prototypes as far as possible, and we are reaching out to the Kickstarter community now to fund our first major production run.
We have manufactured and worn several prototypes, which have been tested for performance. We acknowledge that achieving consistent performance between recycled products is a challenge and risks remain in any manufacturing operation. However, we consider these low risks given the extensive testing we have completed and the industry knowledge of our selected manufacturers.
To achieve our proposed Kickstarter schedule, we are reliant on the timely shipping and processing of our products to Stockholm. We have secured trusted industry partners to handle this process, and we will be doing everything possible to meet our proposed timeline. We are excited about delivering our first products to our Kickstarter backers, and we will be completely engaged with our supporters during this process. Any updates will be relayed in a timely manner, and we are open to any feedback or questions that arise along the way.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
