About this project
The Steep Life Protocols are a collection of tips and techniques that emphasize terrain management in natural backcountry settings. They were developed by Dean Cummings as he established one of the most successful careers in big mountain skiing in the world. From competing on the world stage, to educating government agencies, to location scouting, safety and first descents for films and commercials, to developing a guided mechanized protocols course (http://www.alaskahelicopterskiing.com/amsg-courses), to developing big mountain worthy gear and technique and as the owner and lead guide for his company H2O Guides - one of Alaska's premier heliskiing companies - Dean has been ensuring the safety of clients from top pro athletes, to Wall Street executives and avid ski and snowboard enthusiasts.
Steep Life Protocols encapsulates these learnings and presents them in a impactful and memorable presentations to thousands of people who attend Steep Life Tour stops each fall at theaters, classrooms and in-store seminars. Dean's Steep Life Protocols have earned him recognition from the Alaska governor's office and peers in the outdoor industry who named him Avalanche Educator of the Year in 2012 and 2013.
The Aprés Visuals crew is thrilled to have the opportunity to make an impact on the world by helping share Dean's powerful Steep Life message of practical mountain risk management. Pending the success of our Kickstarter we will travel to Valdez, AK this April to shoot the Steep Life in the stunning background of the Chugach range. Our goal is to create a film that engages the viewer through captivating visuals and the powerful Steep Life message of mountain safety, applicable for everyone who travels, recreates or takes risks in the mountains.
Risks and challenges
Our collective goal is to bring the Steep Life message to the world with the highest production value possible. In order to give back and educate the public and professionals the tour needs to obtain TV time and have a large tour to make a difference. We need a community of backers and people that want to become involved and join us in the mountains while we document the pursuit of life long endeavors and show how to do so safely. Bringing this message of risk management through visually astounding footage is not possible without you.
The Steep Life is about promoting safety to all people that recreate in and around the mountains. We must work together to educate an ever increasing population of winter sports enthusiasts and reduce the incidence of avalanche accidents.
Dean Cummings and the H2O team are committed to sharing their message with the world and our team at Aprés Visuals has the equipment and experience to make it possible. We are excited to be part of this project. With Dean's powerful message and our video production capabilities, we are confident we can inspire and educate people around the world with the Steep Life message.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
