About

Catch monsters in real-time shooter combat!  Once you catch a monster, you can level it up and customize it by fusing it with your other monsters!

  • Side-Paths!  Levels are large and filled with secrets!
  • Minigames!  Strap a steak to your back and go fishing!
  • Arena Challenges!  Wade through hordes of enemies!
  • Optional Bosses!  Powerful monsters lurk around, waiting to turn you inside-out!
  • Over 100 monsters and 200 attacks (and counting!)

Xander woke up face-down in a field one day in form of a giant blue frog.  That was the most normal part of his day.

Xander wasn't always a frog.  He doesn't quite remember what  he used to be, though.  After freeloading for a month at a local inn, he figured out that he could transform into the monsters currently attacking the world- which is a good thing, because a voice in his head beckons him to defeat the biggest monster of them all...

Characters manipulate each other at every turn and some characters even die.  Things start off simple, but it soon becomes clear that there is MUCH  more going on than Xander realizes.

Take Xander's adventure with you wherever you go!  Play on PC or Android (with Mac/Linux/iOS releasing later)

IMPORTANT - I want to release the game on all systems at the same time, but I don't have the means to produce Mac/Linux/iOS games at the moment- thus, there are no Mac/Linux/iOS demos, either.

There will be a stretch goal to cover the costs of producing on those devices- once that goal is hit, I will immediately start working on demo exports for Mac/Linux/iOS.  The game WILL be released on all 5 devices eventually, but if the stretch goal is not met- it will take longer for the Mac/Linux/iOS ports to be released.

Squeamish about onscreen controls in the mobile version?  Don't worry- it's got controller support!

Fuse your monsters together to create a different, stronger monster!  You can then customize its attacks and passive perks!

Monsters have a chance to be an alternate color!  They will shine when encountered or morphed into - make sure you catch them!

There are also alternate monster forms during holidays!  Pick up Skull-Mask Shadowog on Halloween or Santa-Hat Slimius on Christmas, etc.

Demoralize me!  Get over 204 points in the Extended Demo's battle arena to get a special reward!

Also, the first 25 people to get over 120 points in the arena and send me proof on Twitter (tag me, @Karatkuro, in the post to ensure I see it) will get a special, personalized reward!

Literally 80% of the minimum goal is to fund the soundtrack.  The game is long and story-based so there is a lot of music to pay for, and my original compositions sound like someone tripped while carrying a piano - so I won't be making any songs myself in order to spare you guys.

Other than that, there are a lot of little expenses that come with publishing a game, and they add up fast.

I am Jake Walker, "Karatkuro," and I programmed, animated, and wrote Xander.  Jamie Oliver, "Ambrosia Anima" did all the pretty larger pictures for the game's promotion (along with being cuddle support when my code inevitably broke,) and Matthew Rock "My name is already cool so I don't have a nickname" is doing the soundtrack.

As of the time of this writing, I have not slept in a stupid  amount of time due to being so excited for this project.  I started making games 8 years ago, and an unreleased Xander game was one of my first projects.  Yes, Xander is a series I've been obsessed with for YEARS, and with this game, you'll finally be able to see why.

...That, or I'll just out myself as being really weird for obsessing over this game- time will tell ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Risks and challenges

There is almost no risk involved once the project has been funded. The game itself is 90% complete (with this Kickstarter being mainly to fund the rest of the soundtrack) and I post progress reports on the game every single day on Twitter- and have been for the past ~7 months. Provided I'm not hit by a bus during that last 10% the game WILL be finished if funded.

If you are concerned about the game not being released for your favorite system - don't be. As long as the game is funded, I will work to get the game out on Mac/Linux/iOS, but those exports may come out at a later date than the PC/Android version.
