It's official. Kane Van Gate, the beer league/YouTube legend, is going Hollywood. Well...he's not physically going to Hollywood. In fact, the movie has no affiliation with Hollywood and Kane has been bootstrapping the production of the film himself. The project, Hockey Journey, follows Kane Van Gate as he explores the city of Vancouver, British Columbia with his hockey buddies, Pavel Barber and Greg Beaudin. The film is being cut as a feature (at least 60 minutes) and is currently in post production with an anticipated digital release date of May 2018. Watch the short teaser trailer below for a sneak peek of Hockey Journey.

Hockey Journey was first conceived in the summer of 2016 on Kane Van Gate's trip to Vancouver, B.C. to attend TendyFest, a goalie equipment demo & trade show organized by The Hockey Shop. The idea for a hockey-themed travel documentary seemed like a great idea with the shortage of hockey films on the market. This prompted Kaner to set out capturing interviews and footage with various hockey personalities and places around Vancouver and surrounding areas of British Columbia.
When Kane returned from his trip in 2016, he realized that his film was not complete and the story lacked direction. With the help of his friends, Pavel Barber and Greg Beaudin, Kane put together a game-plan to return to Vancouver in 2017 to finish shooting his movie. They played a ton of hockey, saw some beautiful sights, shot a ton of video content for their YouTube channels, and even took a road trip to visit the Ultimate Hockey Fan Cave in Victoria.
At it's core, Hockey Journey is a movie about Kane Van Gate making a hockey movie. You'll get a first-hand account of the struggles and rewards of putting everything on the line to make a feature film. The main theme of the film pops up over and over again as Kane talks with some of the most hockey-passionate people in North America. At the end of the day, it's all about doing what you love and for Kane Van Gate, it's hockey.

It goes without saying that you would be doing Kane Van Gate and the rest of the Hockey Journey cast & crew a huge favor by contributing to this Kickstarter. The passionate hockey audience that has followed Kane Van Gate and Pavel Barber on YouTube is the same audience that is dying for more hockey content. But this time, we're putting everything on the line and we want to deliver the best film possible with the resources available to us. We need your help, whether it's by donating or sharing our Kickstarter page with everyone you know!
Besides some of the cool BHLPA merchandise and hockey experience rewards, there is also an opportunity to have your name go down in hockey history. Anyone who donates $50 or more to the campaign will get their name listed in Hockey Journey's end credits. So, let's make this happen and put your name on something we can all be proud of.

When we started this project we knew that the budget was going to be ultra-low. Although this hurdle limited some of our production capabilities, it allowed us the freedom to make the movie we had envisioned. However, there came a certain point when we realized we needed money for postproduction and distribution. Kickstarter quickly became our best option to raise a little money while providing our YouTube audience with fun ways to get involved in the project. The backer reward system was the perfect fit, allowing us to pre-sell the film, offer BHLPA hockey apparel and other unique hockey experiences in exchange for donations.
WHAT WILL THE MONEY BE USED FOR?
The film is currently in postproduction and requires a significant amount of editing, color correction, and audio-mixing. We are working with a local postproduction house in St. Louis to plan out the completion of Hockey Journey. The remaining funds will be used to independently distribute and market the film on digital platforms.
DO YOU HAVE ANY STRETCH GOALS?
Yes, we do! We have some really great ideas if we raise more than our initial goal. This will allow us to do things like buying music rights and adding some cool motion graphics. We've also planned for additional private screenings of the film in locations across North America.
Risks and challenges
Making a feature-length film is a complicated process. There are a lot of technical aspects to shooting, editing, and distributing a feature film. We're doing our best to avoid any legal complications or technical problems that will slow us down. Not to mention, we want to tell an interesting story, which can present it's own challenges.
