We are talking about the first backpack that is as much a nerd as it is a fashionista – a product that is not a compromise, but perfectly fulfills high aesthetical expectations as well as as functional innovation. The Grid lets you swap the attachable pockets just as you need it everyday. Like all KANCHA products, it is handcrafted in a sustainable production process with real leather and canvas from organic cotton.

For us, few days are alike – so why should our backpack be? Hence, we developed a simple modular system that gives you the freedom to rethink everyday what you really need to carry around and what not. Furthermore you can use the different pockets individually too, as a wallet or belt-bag for example. The strict and sleek design takes its inspiration from the Fibonacci system – what else combines function and beauty better? At KANCHA, social impact is the core of all our activities: we produce in a fair and responsible way in our workshops in Kyrgyzstan to maximize local value creation. All of this combined, we duely believe, kicks ass!

The detachable pockets seem to give the impression that they are easy targets for pickpockets, simply rip and run. But The Grid's pockets are attached with a metal rivet that requires clipping the pockets carefully on and off, and pulling it in public space would not lead to them coming loose. Have a look.
The Grid with its different pockets and colors gives you more than 35.000 possibilities to create your bag. Not saying you should try them all, but it does give you extensive space to improvise and adapt it. And on top of that, you can get the "creative cord" made out of leather that gives you an infinite number of possibilities to attach bottles, rackets or an axe...check out the different urban nomads below to see what’s all possible!

Quality craftsmanship is one of KANCHA’s core values, and The Grid will also be carefully handcrafted in our workshops. Our attention to detail and decades of experience of our craftspeople in leather processing guarantee a long life for this bag.
At KANCHA, we personally get all the raw materials from source. Merino wool, which will be processed to protective felt, leather from Kyrgyz cow herds, and canvas from organic cotton, grown in the south of Kyrgyzstan.
The main motivation behind KANCHA is to develop and produce innovative useful accessories and thereby creating sustainable social impact in our production country Kyrgyzstan. By doing so, we set an example of how we believe a business in a globalized world should be run - leading to more equality.
We are creating employment paying fair wages, offer addtional services which typically are not available in Kyrgyzstan, such as free healthcare support and provision of microloans, and support youth entrepreneurship through coaching and financing. We constantly improve our footprint along the triple bottom line with the main premise of maximizing value creation in our production country. Each of our products - so far we offer tech sleeves, wallets and photography accessories - comes with a handmade label signed by one of our crafting nomads to which you can directly connect if you like. Risques et défis
For over 9 months now we have tested and prototyped "The Grid" until we got a more than satisfying result. Our aim with this campaign is to enable us to produce a larger series in our workshops: for this we need to buy big quantities of material, fly in our designer Jonas to Kyrgyzstan and have him assist our crafting nomads to get 120% out of our awesome prototype. It's the same approach with which we mastered our first 2 crowdfunding campaigns, making our backers happy and content nomads, therefore we are more than confident that it will work this time too!
