About

I'm striving to create an open, sensual, and contemporary universe reflecting upon the spirit of “Effortless Chic” for women. My designs are simple and pure with the pronounced essence and meticulous attention to detail characteristic of Japan but with a delicate, daring edge intended to expand the creative and cultural boundaries of that influence.

My brand's motto, BE ONESELF (Individual Pursuit), emphasizes the pursuit of a lifestyle ripe with free expression and individual enjoyment both internally within oneself and externally within the day-to-day life and world we live.

My creation process is deeply rooted in honor and respect, and I endeavor to always maintain a net-positive impact with my work. I do not want to create designs for others that are worn and forgotten. I want to create a community of like-minded creators, makers, and enthusiasts that can share ideas and grow together, bringing positivity to all those it touches.

  • Japanese factories are world-renowned for their high standard of quality, attention to detail, and skilled sewing technique. This results in higher manufacturing costs but also gives the final product an unrivaled level of precision in both form and function that adds to my product's sophistication. "Made in Japan" is not only a label of origin but also a label of pride.
  • Many Japanese factories have limited-capacity production lines and an ever decreasing skilled labor pool that threatens their future economic viability. My approach in working with these factories emphasizes a commitment to restoring and empowering these factories as mainstays in the industry to support young, up-and-coming designers like myself now and in the future to come.
  • My style of creation encompasses delicate, yet refined and sophisticated designs. Japanese or French material alone does not allow me to fully express myself through my designs. Just as different minds compliment each other to bring forward new ideas, the material I use from Japan and France compliments and amplifies the characteristics of each other to result in unique, fresh designs.
  • Japan and France share unique cultures, histories, and values related to material. By joining these materials in a unique marriage, I am able to honor the two countries and cultures that have shaped my life and share my individual interpretation of them with the world.
  • A commitment to high quality materials resounds in both Japanese and French fashion. Although culturally different, Japan and France share a respect and admiration for where things are from and how they are made.
  • I have already developed strong, mutually beneficial relationships with vendors and manufacturers in both countries, bringing more unique options to my creative canvas.

  • The meeting of Kana Matsunami, Japanese designer of ready-to-wear fashion and jewelry, and Véronique Moriez, Parisian Lingerie designer and colorist, in 2016 led to the conception of expanding Kana’s ready-to-wear collection with some forms of Lingerie influenced by Véronique’s savior-faire.
  • In light of their individual success and shared taste for refinement and delicacy, Kana and Véronique have decided to give birth to a new Lingerie collaboration: “KANA MATSUNAMI X VÉRONIQUE MORIEZ” to be presented for the first time at “Exposed” at the Salon International de la Lingerie in Paris from January 19-21, 2019.

 Brand Showcase by Promostyl

My capsule collection "KANA MATSUNAMI x Véronique Moriez " was showcased by Promostyl in their recent Brands Collaboration - Lingerie announcement along side these other trendsetting, ready-to-wear brands.

  • ALBERTINE X MODE TROTTER
  • AUBADE X VIKTOR&ROLF
  • PRINCESS TAM TAM X ELISA NALIN

I'm extremely honored to have been selected by Promostyl to join other noteworthy brands and creators!!!

Promostyl is a global trend forecasting agency with headquarters in Paris and a network of agents worldwide.

Without your contributions and support, my designs would remain products of just my imagination. With your help, I will be able to accelerate my brand's foray into new markets around the world and strengthen my relationships with key partners in both the design and creation of my products. Sharing my vision with and inspiring others are my passions, and my KANA MATSUNAMI brand strives to foster not only a sense of individuality but also a sense of community that brings like-minded, forward-thinking creators together.

Your contributions will go towards:

  • Ramping the production of my latest collection
  • Reaching economies of scale in the sourcing of high-quality, limited-production/edition raw materials and fabric, sewing costs at my Japanese factories, and end-to-end logistics costs
  • Developing future collections and collaborations | I’m currently preparing designs for a 100% natural-dye knitted dress, lounge wear, and lingerie!!!

Risks and challenges

Production Challenges: Working with limited-capacity Japanese factories presents unique challenges in reserving production capacity to meet a tight fulfillment schedule. I work closely with my production partners to align forecasts with factory capacity, but unforeseen risks related to raw material delays and competing capacity demand could potentially impact my project timeline. By maintaining strong relationships and open communication through my supply chain, I am able to mitigate any potential risks.

Raw Material and Fabric Challenges: As a small volume designer, I must be duly diligent to maintain my strong relationships with material and fabric suppliers in Japan and France. Trends come and go, and the threat of larger brands always looms overhead when competing for limited, high-quality resources. Sourcing for my designs also requires great care to ensure that downstream suppliers are aligned to support my narrow production windows at Japanese factories. An efficient yet flexible supply chain is of utmost importance when manufacturing complex designs.

Commitment to Quality: Sacrificing quality for cost or speed is not who I am or what my brand stands for. A strong commitment to quality throughout my design process is critical in maintaining my brand's image. Both success and failure can push business owner's to make compromises that deteriorate or detract from their mission and values. I am firm in my resolve to keep my brand's story and image inline with my own mission and values.
