When we began to work on the new Thylacine™ line, we considered every element that defines a great sleeping bag – silky soft lightweight fabrics, advanced insulation technologies, body-mapped patterning, 3D construction, durable hardware, snag free zippers, and beautifully functional form. We pushed through boundaries set by the “status quo” and kept challenging ourselves to create the best, most innovative sleeping bag possible. After years of iterations, the result was something revolutionary - a redefinition of what a sleeping bag should be.

The Thylacine™ adapts to your specific needs, and delivers endless options to unleash your creativity as you interact with the natural world. The Thylacine can become any bag you need it to be due to its patent-pending Variable Warmth Technology™ (interchangeable baffle system) and Customfit™ size adjustments.
Variable Warmth Technology™ delivers complete customization through a system of changeable insulated baffles. The baffles can be filled with synthetic, down, or a hybrid of both types of insulation. Although baffles are common in most sleeping bags, the ability to remove and change the baffles is an entirely new concept specifically designed to meet the needs of every adventure.
The Thylacine uses a patent-pending locking feature that keeps the baffles properly positioned inside the baffle chamber to prevent cold spots. The baffles are created using an ultralight downproof fabric that is quilted in order to minimize the migration of insulation. By simply removing or adding baffles to the baffle chambers, you can create the customized temperature rating you need for whatever adventure awaits you.
"Our first night in Patagonia was spent in the valley of El Chalten where the temperature reached a low of around 40°F. One layer of synthetic baffles created a 40°F bag and kept us warm. However, a 25°F bag would have been uncomfortably hot! The second night we made camp near the glacier where the cold wind came down off glacier. The lowest temperature that night was around 20°F - and it was sleeting/windy. By simply adding a second layer of baffles in each chamber, we created a 25°F bag. Another layer of synthetic baffles would bring the rating to 0°F. In owning the Thylacine bag with three layers of baffles, you actually have 4 complete sleeping bags in one!" - Greg McEvilly
PrimaLoft® Gold Synthetic is the highest performing insulation on the market for warmth, water resistance, softness and compressibility. PrimaLoft® Gold is an ultra-fine microfiber insulation that is as soft, lightweight, and warmer, wet or dry, than all other insulations. Ultra-fine fibers form tiny air pockets to trap body heat and keep the cold out. The result is immediate warmth without the bulk. PrimaLoft® Gold microfibers are engineered for permanent water resistance and create tight surface tension that resists moisture penetration, resulting in an insulation that dries faster than goose down. Ultra-fine fibers mimic the compressibility of goose down and are breathable, allowing moisture to be transported through the fibers and away from the skin.
PrimaLoft® Down Blend is the ultimate combination of PrimaLoft® ultra-fine fibers and water repellent goose down, offering high-performance warmth and comfort in variable conditions while adhering to the PrimaLoft® promise of an environmentally safe technology free of fluorocarbons.
PrimaLoft® Down Blend Gold is a unique blend of premium quality environmentally friendly water resistant 750 fill power grey goose down with PrimaLoft® ultra-fine denier fibers. Our hybrid insulated baffles feature a homogeneous blend of 30% PrimaLoft® ultra-fine fibers, and 70% of 750 fill power water resistant goose down. This combines the benefits of both worlds - offering the absolute best of Down & Synthetic in one fill type.
These width adjustments allows the you to modify the size of the bag as needed. The footbed adjustment allows the bag length to be resized 3" - 5" inches so that your feet are all the way down in the bag. Five body width adjustments allow you to customize the width of the bag at several critical points: chest, hips, thighs, knees and ankles. This allows for less dead space and increases thermal efficiency and comfort for the user.
Atmos™ is a 10D nylon ripstop made from high tenacity yarns offering unprecedented durability with thermal reflective properties.
One of the biggest challenges in creating an adaptable sleeping bag is managing the overall weight of the bag due to the necessary use of additional fabrics for encasing interchangeable baffles. To achieve a lightweight design, we had to look at making a new ultralight fabric with integrated thermal retention technology.
This problem forced us to think differently about fabric – the Thylacine “shell” and “liner” fabric needed to be multifunctional and offer greater thermal retention value than traditional ultralight fabrics. Increasing the thermal retention value of the fabric allows the use of less insulating “fill” in the interchangeable baffles – driving down total weight in a radical way.
Atmos™ is incredibly soft against the skin, and is used as the “liner” fabric for the Thylacine Ultralight™ and Thylacine Expedition™ bags. Atmos+™ DWR is treated with a Durable Water Repellent finish, and is used as the Ultralight bag shell fabric.
The newest textile development in Kammok’s amphibious class is DART™ – which stands for Dry Advanced Respiration Technology. DART™ fabric is used for the Expedition bag shell & offers some of the most waterproof & breathable advancements on the market. DART™ is powered by eVent® - a patented waterproof membrane that allows vapor to vent from inside the bag while keeping wind and water out.
eVent® fabrics get their unique properties from a proprietary and patented waterproof membrane. Its unique composition allows millions of tiny pores to breathe at their full potential. Most common waterproof/breathable membranes do not literally “breathe.” Instead, they move sweat in two slow steps by a process of diffusion through a Polyurethane (PU) layer. Because a PU absorbs and retains sweat, the inside of the fabric becomes wet. Body heat begins to push the dampness through to the outside of the fabric where it can finally evaporate–a very inefficient process. eVent is the most advanced breathable & waterproof membrane available today!
The Thylacine Ultralight™ and Expedition™ shells are uninsulated (when baffles are removed) sleeping bags, similar to a liner, but with all the features of a sleeping bag. With the baffles removed, the Ultralight can be a summer degree bag, and the Expedition “X” shell can be an uninsulated waterproof bivy - both can be reconfigured as needed.
Super Ultralight sleeping bag shell that compresses into a softball sized stuff sack (uninsulated). The Thylacine UL™ sleeping bag shell features Kammok’s proprietary Atmos+™ fabric with heat reflective technology and a DWR finish. The UL liner is made of Atmos™ - giving a silky soft feel. The Thylacine UL also features a waterproof footbox.
The Thylacine X™ is a waterproof bivy/sleeping bag featuring Kammok’s DART™ Technology. DART™ (Dry Advanced Respiration Technology) is an eVent based fabric is that is Waterproof, Windproof, and highly Breathable. The Thylacine X will be fully seam sealed for ultimate waterproofness and also features Atmos™ fabric for the liner.
Unlike traditional sleeping bags, the Thylacine Sleeping Bag System also allows you to easily wash and maintain your bag. Typically, when a sleeping bag needs to be washed, it is because the shell and liner are dirty, not the inner insulation. Thanks to Thylacine’s removable baffles, the sleeping bag shell and the baffles can be washed and treated separately. This allows you to properly clean dirt and body oils from the shell and liner without compromising the insulating properties of the baffles.
The Thylacine line will undergo multiple certified lab tests which will evaluate the thermal performance of the sleeping bag according to EN 13537 requirements for Sleeping Bags (CEN, 2012). Specifically, the Thylacine will be tested to determine the measured insulation values and the temperature limits that will determine the temperature comfort range.
We will work diligently to achieve these temperature ratings, and share the testing results in Project Status Updates.
The Thylacine Sleeping Bag System allows for future customizations including internal head pillows, internal sleeping pads, and many other advancements in future insulation - further example of how and why this is the only sleeping bag system you will ever need to own!
The best trail rated quilt ever produced, the Firebelly™ fuses luxurious comfort & technical back country functionality. Designed specifically for hammock users and the ultra-minimalist backpacker, the Firebelly™ places all insulation on the sides & top of you and omits the bottom insulation (bottom insulation is often unusable when compressed in a hammock or when a sleeping pad is used). The Firebelly™ will be rated at ± 30°F, keeping you incredibly warm at a 'feather-light' weight.
The Firebelly™ can be used as a traditional bed quilt when unbuttoned, or you can choose to secure the 5 button snaps and draw cord at the foot area to create a cosy warm foot box. When not in use on the trail, the Firebelly may be replacing Granny’s old quilt on your couch!

Risks and challenges
All of the video/pictures you see of the Thylacine™ are of a working prototype. We need the Kickstarter community help to bring this product to completion. We will be using all of the funds raised for things like: tooling cost, covering minimum order quantities of all our custom parts/fabric (which is everything...no off the rack components go into the Thylacine), etc. If we achieve additional funding, we have some exciting stretch goals to share!
Similar to our past project, we have put a lot of work, time, and thought into each aspect of what it will take to successfully complete this project. Our biggest challenge will be meeting our shipping delivery dates if the project is extremely over funded. Taking a product from a prototype into mass production will always surface new challenges that have to be addressed.
We intend to under-promise and over-deliver. We have set June as our “ship date”. We have worked hard to minimize foreseeable risks, as we have set the foundation for this product over the past two years. Since this will be the first production run, we may have to change some things and will let everyone know about any changes via project updates. We have experience with large-scale manufacturing and have established solid relationships with our manufacturing partners to minimize our risks and to help deliver the best rewards possible for backers.
