About this project
Fruitcraft app is an all new free to play trading card game featuring more than 30 fearless Fruit Warriors, each in 7 different levels. Battle your way online against friend and foe to earn more gold, level up and dominate the rankings. Fruitcraft is almost complete and we really want to launch the game later this Summer on iOS mobile and tablets. Sqish ‘em all!
Here is an early demo of the game in action:
Fruitcraft is a simple but ruthlessly addictive concept. Build an army of Fruit Warriors and dominate the landscape. Select your Warrior cards with care, balancing various power, rarity and cooldown.
Each of the characters oozes charisma and has an original backstory as well as a range of weapons, power and rarity, many of which can be upgraded or unlocked by levelling up.
Select from several worlds and scout out vulnerable opponents with resources to plunder. Choose wisely and then attack!
Winner takes all, and you will quickly build gold reserves with which to collect more unique cards and enhance your warriors. Increased dominance and number of wins will boost your position in global rankings. And that means respect, notoriety and power!
After battles and quests characters go into lock-down. Either wait for the cool off period to play the same cards again or use gold to fast-track.
Run out of gold? Either go on quests, start winning, get your warriors to work in the gold mine or…buy gold. The game offers micro-transactions as a way to get ahead, but it’s finely balanced to ensure the game is still enjoyable for the average free to play user.
Fruitcraft is social, not just when you are playing against opponents. You can create a tribe or join one with your friends and get special bonuses.
- Over 30 base characters, each with 7 unique levels totalling over 200 cards
- Ability to enhance cards by sacrificing your weaker cards, building your own unique deck
- Ability to upgrade your buildings for extra bonuses
- Classic trading card game with a modern social twist. Play with anyone globally!
- Create or join tribes to get special bonuses
- Chat globally with members of your tribe
- iOS version, with Android on the roadmap and maybe even web and Ouya to come!
The Fruitcraft idea is pretty old…all the way back from when we were children. Back then my brothers and I used to invent lots of handmade games to pass the time during the long hot summer months. Card games and fake money were always our favourites.
Who knew then that many years later we’d be on the brink of making our childhood dreams go digital?
Last Christmas along with a few of our friends we chattered excitedly over creating our first digital card game. Finally Fruitcraft was taking shape. We had the basics of the game concept, mechanics and draw factor down. It was time to start prototyping!
After 2 weeks of camping with the team at my parents' basement, we had a web beta. We launched the beta in early January with over 300 early adopters. That’s when we realised we had a truly fun and addictive game on our hands.
Based on the feedback we received and analysis of playing patterns we tweaked the mechanics and started working on the iOS version.
FruitCraft's development is almost complete. The back-end, client, game balancing, original artworks are all in place. We have run successful trials and have had a positive response to the concept.
The game is firmly on target for release before September!
However, after 6 months of spending all our free time on the project and asking for many free favours, we need £7,000 to finalise the project. The money will go towards creating more cards, animation, finishing the code, putting a server in place and taking the game to market.
A portion of what we raise will go towards reward fulfilment. About 10% or so will go towards Kickstarter fees and tax.
So your support will mean a lot! Back us today and help us spread the word and get the game established.
We wouldn't be asking for money for nothing. We do have a range of exciting rewards for you as well. We have tried to keep them realistic and interesting. You can see the list on the right hand column. You can also check our our reward treasure map below or our simple reward table.
(Here is a larger view)
Please Note: Final images and designs might vary. Any in-game rewards will need to be approved by the team. As a general rule, if you own the rights to the content and it's appropriate for a 12 year-old to see, we will consider including it.
We really hope to raise more funds than the minimum £7,000. Any extra will go towards getting the game onto other platforms. Starting with Android and then moving to create a proper web version.
We are also huge fans of Ouya and would love to see the game on there.
Give generously and be a Patron of the Indies!
Fruitcraft is a collaborative project. Everyone involved has contributed across the board, from ideas and design to development and marketing. But here are some loose roles so you would know who has been working on the project.
Ramin is our brilliant character designer.
We have worked together for the past four years. We have developed project for top brand like Channel Four, Puma, Unilever and amazing startups like ColourDNA, SundayDrive and Zangoole. Many of our projects have had press from outlets like WIRED, FastCompany, TechCrunch, the BBC, the Guardian and TNW.
This project wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the help and support of many friends and fans along the way.
Thank you to all our beta testers and early adopters for your amazing feedback and encouragement.
Thank you Marcin for your lovely colourful UI designs, Oli and Vito for your ongoing help with the music, Sohrab for your contribution at the beginning of the project and spending 2 weeks in a basement, Jason and Harry for your Kickstarter tips and last but not least, Matt for being our sounding board and catching many many spelling and grammatical errors.
And don’t forget Fruitcraft needs YOU!
Risks and challenges
We have tried to minimise our risks by doing most of the work upfront and running a beta. But we still have a number of challenges to overcome.
Tight deadline: We want to make sure the first version of the game is out before September. That’s just round the corner. We are confident that with your support and some coffee we can make it.
Music: The music is still not finalised. We are working with brilliant musicians at the moment and our progress depend on them.
Animation: We need to bring animators on board. We already have 2 potential artists to help us. Ramin, our designer will also be giving them a hand.
Reward fulfilment: We want to send out the rewards asap. All digital goodies and postcards will start going out as soon as the campaign is over. In-game changes will be implemented for the second release as we want to make sure the game is out before the deadline. You can expect these rewards to be fulfilled by October 2013. We want to avoid any delays to the game release and updates. So in case any of our top backers with in-game rewards miss a deadline, we would include their content in subsequent releases. And finally we will ship physical goods from November 2013.
Game adoption: We have a full blown plan for how to get the game to the market and scale up. Only after a month of launching our Facebook page, we have over 1,150 fans and growing. We are also counting on Fruitcraft’s amazing original beta testers to spread the word.
Over the years we have launched many successful projects (check them out from my profile). Made many mistakes. Learnt a lot. We believe this experience will help us make wiser decisions and avoid pitfalls.
We have backed projects before that took much longer to fulfil their promises and it sucked! So we know how it feels. We promise to keep you up-to-date with the progress and do all that we can to get this project done on time.
