Hi, I’m Simon Cox, the writer and director of a thrilling new science fiction movie called, Kaleidoscope Man.
When I was a child and saw the original Star Wars, I knew then that I wanted to be a film director and that some day I would make a sci-fi movie that would thrill, inspire and blow audiences away - just like Star Wars did for me...
Well, after many years of development and a career in film and TV as a director and editor, Kaleidoscope Man is that sci-fi movie...

KALEIDOSCOPE MAN - THE STORY
After the death of his young daughter, THOMAS DUNN is a man who has lost his faith. His life has crumbled and his confidence is shattered. But on this day he wakes to discover that MANDY, his loving wife is finally pregnant again. Maybe this is their chance to move away from the tragedy of the past and for him to find his faith again.
But on his way to his job as a doctor at a care centre for people with mental health problems, Tom has a horrific vision; fire, destruction and the end of the Earth.
Unbeknown to Tom, Mandy, who is a teacher at a primary school, has had the same vision. As Tom arrives at the care centre, he discovers that three of his patients have also had the same vision; HARRIET, an angry lady with a narcissistic personality disorder, FLOYD, a paranoid schizophrenic, and SAMANTHA, a goth and a manic depressive.
Tom is baffled, why them? Fear and paranoia sets in as people across the world discuss the visions that only some of them have experienced.
Then, like an omen of doom, a new star appears in the heavens.
As telescopes point skywards, the people of Earth finally learn that they are not alone in the universe. The star is a gigantic spaceship.
Tom wants out of the city, as quickly as possible and tries to call Mandy, but the two of them miss each others phone calls. As the sun sets, a small venomous four legged harvester spaceship attacks the hospital and abducts Tom, Floyd, Harriet and Samantha.
The harvester races upwards and takes them aboard the mother-ship which hovers above the Earth.
Tom, Floyd, Harriet and Samantha are forced into pods and then put into each others deepest thoughts and fantasies.
Here they discover the horrific truth as to the visions, why they were abducted and why THEY were chosen.
The mother-ship launches a massive assault on the Earth, sending out millions of harvester craft to collect up the inhabitants and put them in pods within the belly of the mother-ship.
Tom discovers that he must look deep within himself to find not just his faith, but the wisdom and strength to save the human race from the horrors that threaten them. And somehow, he must do this with the help of his three patients.
But first, he must save Mandy and their unborn child, as together they hold the future of the human race. The battle lines are drawn and the final stance for Earth is about to begin...
This is a big feature film, so we have broken the production down into phases which will make it easier to raise money for and for us to manage.
The separate phases are:
Phase 1 – B-Unit scenes (Shooting Feb – April 2013)
These are all the sequences that do not involve the main cast. However, each sequence is a lot of work and vital to the story. They include:
- Scenes of crowds on streets as alien spaceships attack
- Scenes in space observatory
- Scenes with Children seeing Kaleidoscope Man
- Scene with hero’s brother fighting off alien attack
- Scene on International Space Station
- Scene on 5th Avenue in New York
- Scene with destruction of New York
- 12 X Scenes of TV inserts to drop into the main film
- CGI work of alien pod sequence and additional pre-vis work
We can build the necessary sets and shoot these scenes for a minimum of £5,000. If we could raise more though, it will mean we can push ahead with the CGI worked required.
The money we raise through this Phase 1 campaign will be used to pay the actors, the crew and to build two sets.
The other phases that we will be raising money for over the next few months are:
Phase 2 – Main Unit Shoot (May – July 2013)
Phase 3 – CGI (Feb – Nov 2013)
Phase 4 – Post production (Sept – Dec 2013)
Please note. We are also approaching business angels for financial help.
WANT TO BE ABDUCTED BY ALIENS..?
Check out the video below which shows the animation pre-vis for the alien abduction sequence. The numbered pods are 1st Class and the others (with windows) are 2nd class. To be in a pod in the final film - follow the instructions on the right hand side of the screen. If our campaign is successful we will send you full instructions of what we will need you to do.

The way Kickstarter works is that if we don’t reach our minimum target by the due date, we don't get anything (and you pay nothing). So please help by giving what you can and by telling your friends.
Thank you for your support, I know times are tough and really appreciate you giving up your hard earned cash to help. This is a real dream for me and I PROMISE TO MAKE KALEIDOSCOPE MAN AN AWESOME MOVIE!!!
Keep the faith!

Risks and challenges
The potential challenges I see are:
1. The film may take longer to complete than expected. To alleviate this, we have prepared a time table for each production phase of the film and will do our best to stick to it.
2. The other phases of the film may be problematic to raise funds for. This is the big one. If we are unable to raise funds for say, the main shoot, we could end up with only half a film. For this reason, we are also speaking to business angels about investment into the limited company we have set up, which takes advantage of the UK Governments SEIS tax incentive.
3. We may need to run other Kickstarter campaigns if we run over budget. This is worse case, but if we encounter expensive problems during the production, we may well consider asking our supporters for a little more help.
The thing I would like to make clear is that we are very, very committed to getting this film made to the very highest quality standards possible. Our aim is to make a film that stands head and shoulders with films that come out of Hollywood, even though we are making a film on a very low budget in comparison, we will do whatever we need to do, to complete the film.
