Monitor Gray is an intelligent Sci-Fi expertly crafted to not only entertain, but to address key issues of our time: the power of corporations to control those beyond their immediate reach, the ability for individuals to ignore economic disparities as long as their own lives are awash in full comfort, and the ramification of blending politics and religion in a world desperate for strong leadership.
This short film is the introduction to the characters and story foundation. It is the opening scene of what is hoped to be a feature film or made-for-television mini-series of the same name.
1) Monitor Gray is a Hollywood quality introduction to the Monitor Gray characters and story, a demonstration of what is possible with a limited budget and an all volunteer cast and crew.
2) Shot on the RED Epic, primary shooting was completed in April and May. With just one day of shooting remaining, the rough draft is now being edited.
3) The Kickstarter campaign will enable the engagement of top-talent for the integration of computer generated visual effects and final editing.
Why help us?
Because a solid, well developed story is hard to come by. Because the art of good sci-fi is nearly lost. Because over 40 cast and crew truly believe in this production, enough to volunteer their time and energy in order that this story may come to life. Because we have a chance (cannot divulge details at this time) at a made-for-TV movie or mini-series and need this showcase to be done right.
We need for you to believe in Monitor Gray as much as we do, to help us bring this story to life. Some twenty years after its original writing, the story is now more than ever true to real life and in many ways, a mirror for what is happening in our modern world.
As good science fiction is not about technology itself, but truly about the human condition in reflection of the technology we create, Monitor Gray is a mirror for where we are now, in this modern world.
When an associate read the backstory (www.monitorgray.com/category/backstory/) he exclaimed, "That's not science fiction! That's reality, now!"
"While Phoenix is not the first place one may look for acting talent, it has grown over the past decade to offer a solid array of both experienced and new cast and crew.
"Through my work with the Almost Famous Film Festival, Steve Briscoe, and Joel's connection through several years of working as DP and screen writer, we were able to call upon the best of the best of Phoenix and a few former Phoenicians who now reside in L.A. Everyone believed in this project enough to volunteer their time. We could not have asked for more.
"In 2011, I was introduced to some of Hollywood's best through my associate Scott Frankel, Visual Effects Supervisor (www.circlesfx.com), including an Academy award winning DP; Peter Rubin (www.ironroosterstudios.com), known for his work with Man of Steel, Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome, and Terminator 3 to name a few. Peter produced the 3D model for the Pyramid that you will find in the banner art as well as the opening and closing of our Kickstarter.com trailer. His talent helped to shape the early concepts for this film.
"Should we be so fortunate as to find funding for the intended feature, this short our proof of concept, we will have an exceptional team to call upon," --Kai Staats, Producer
Seasoned actor Steve Briscoe is Dr. Jeffrey Sorin, a genius biotech researcher guided by his faith to free humans of disease. But the means by which he works to achieve this challenges the very foundation of personal freedom.
Seasoned actor Kathleen Cameron is Victoria, Vice President of Product Development and right-hand to Dr. Sorin.
Bobby Rodenbach is superstar nano scientist Ethan Parker who is recruited by Sorin Biotech. When he is confronted with the reality of how Sorin's technology may be used, he must choose to support their research ... or risk everything to do what is right.
Rising talent Annie Boon is Gloria, lead research analyst who is desperate to bring her aging parents into the Sorin Biotech city to ensure their comfort. Her drive to save her parents from a crumbling U.S. and crush on rebel Ethan Parker will force her to make difficult choices when she learns of Sorin's true intent.

In the not too distant future, the United States fails to regain its position as the global economic and military power. The Federal government loses authority, resulting in some States seceding from the union. Citizens turn away from central authority and instead seek strong, local political and religious leaders for direction.
In the American Southwest, a genius bio-tech researcher defeats nearly all forms of cancer, saving millions of lives worldwide. His team then moves to use the same nano technology to relieve humanity of anxiety, depression, and fear.
Almost overnight, Dr. Jeffrey Sorin gains wealth, power, and a cult following. He constructs the world’s largest self-contained city and offers his employees and their families jobs, safety, comfort, and a lavish lifestyle not enjoyed since the Roman era. Sorin rules not just a company, but a growing empire.
How far will he go to maintain control?
