UPDATE 2: STRETCH GOAL CLUES
This is beyond my WILDEST DREAMS! For every $100 we raise until we hit $18k I will post a clue about who the guest artist is!
$17,700 Clue: This female artist is currently on tour, and also plays many stringed instruments.
UPDATE 1: FUNDED!
This is me RN. I look like this dog.
LETS DISCUSS! We're making a record! SCORE! This is fantastic! Are you new to the project? Just clicking the link? Feel like you're not making a difference? Well.. You're wrong.
Everything above the goal is going to go toward making album artwork and paying for a great PR campaign to get these songs into as many new ears as possible, and if we hit my first stretch goal ($18,000) I'll be announcing a special guest musician who will be on one of the songs. This person is incredible and I've been a fan for a very long time and love them very much so this would be incredibly special for me (AND for you. Trust me)
Thanks for getting me this far! If you're new to the project- Let's keep it going! It's only going to get better!
Hey Everybody! I’m Kailynn and my band is called Tiny Stills. I'm Kickstarting the second record- and I can't do it without you.
Many of you helped to fund my first Kickstarter for the album I made in 2013 called "Falling Is Like Flying". Thank you so much for making the first project such a success! We made something really special together. Now I'm back with a vengeance to avoid the sophomore slump and I want this album to be bigger, better, and sound even more amazing. Since that last album I've done two national tours and two west coast tours, opened for a bunch of amazing musicians who I love and admire (like Anthony Raneri of Bayside, Allison Weiss, Motion City Soundtrack and Set Your Goals) and it's possible that I even met YOU in the process!
In 2011, I had just moved to Los Angeles and was working at a kosher bakery when my life changed forever. I was robbed at gunpoint. It took me until 2013 till I found a productive outlet to cope with the PTSD I was experiencing. That was this band. It didn't have a name yet, it was just a collection of really honest, sad songs wrapped up in catchy productions that helped me feel happy again. The name Tiny Stills came about as a way to name the struggles I was having with my memories of the event and the songs they inspired. I didn't know it at the time, but Tiny Stills became my way of feeling connected to people again. I found that I wasn't alone in these feelings. In fact- a lot of people could relate to what I was writing about.
Tiny Stills is a cathartic, emotional outlet that holds a very special place in my heart... So if you're down, I'd love to share some of these feelings with you.
Now more than ever I feel that everyday we have a choice to make. We either choose to wake up and enrich the world around us, or we settle for mediocrity and the status quo. We either follow our dreams, or help someone else to follow theirs. I consistently work twice as hard for myself and the music that I love than I do for any other purpose because I know these songs will make someone else's suffering more bearable because they exist. I frequently and openly discuss mental health issues through my music because sometimes horrible things happen, but that doesn't mean we have to suffer alone and in silence. Carrie Fisher said it best.. "Take your broken heart, make it into art." Long live the resistance.
These are the best songs that I've ever written. They're truthful, honest, heartbreaking, and I'm really proud of them. I've started working on a small batch with my friend, Engineer/Producer Andy Freeman (Eisley/The Show Ponies) with Tony Thaxton (Motion City Soundtrack/Pride of Erie PA/Submerge) on drums and Harry Foster on bass and I love what we've got so far. They feel timely and and I think it's important to share them.
If you're not familiar with my music, let me describe it in a way that makes sense in "The Industry": It's like Rilo Kiley meets Weezer's chill emo son Death Cab for Cutie and they made a love child named Tiny Stills. Here are some videos:
You are my record label! It's cool! This is what you’re helping me pay for by supporting my Kickstarter: Mixing, Mastering, Production, Studio Rental, Vinyl Production. The absolute bare minimum I need is $16,000 to make the physical record. Anything above that goes toward non-music related expenses that are still equally important like: graphic design, hiring a PR company who will help it reach as many people as possible, and making music videos for the singles.
The more I have, the more I can do! It doesn't stop at $16,000. So I set up stretch goals!
If we hit the stretch goal of $18,000, we're going to have a special guest musician on the album. At this moment, it MAY be more than one. You won't know until we reach the goal! Hint: I do though and I'm super excited about this!
At $20,000, you get an acoustic bonus track!
As this Kickstarter continues, I will announce more stretch goals should we be so #blessed to get there.
By donating to my Kickstarter not only do you get the album early, but you get letters and/or videos on top of my video updates and instant access to demos.
- Kickstarter Studio Updates: for every person who contributes, and they're exclusive to kickstarter.
- Kickstarter Exclusive Lyric Zine: I'll be hand making an awesome booklet with all of my lyrics handwritten (similar to the insert for Falling Is Like Flying) that is only available to my Kickstarter backers
- Kickstarter Exclusive Song Posters: I'm going to be hand making original poster art for each song, and you'll get to keep it! There will only be 10 of these (1 of each!) They're first come first serve, so I'll give you the titles that are available when you purchase this tier and you can pick! The art below is the blank I used for the summer tour dates I did this year. Imagine this, but COOLER because its the full poster!
- Test Pressings: You can get one of the first pressings of this record. Only 3 available, and there is only one 7 inch available of a song of your choice. You get to pick!
- Custom Song Requests: I'll cover any song you'd like and send it to you.
- Custom Videos: I've done it before, I'll do it again! you fill out a questionnaire and I write a song about you and then make a video for you! See below: "Nate Little You're a Big Deal to Me"
- T-Shirts: Designed by the formidable Kristine Thune to be printed on those real nice soft black shirts everyone likes so much. You know the ones!
The last time I did a Kickstarter, you helped me reach my goal overnight. Then, through the magic of community, you helped me quadruple it. This time I'm really going for it- A full on colored vinyl record- what you asked for! This is it!
I am an independent musician. For what I lack in resources, I will always make up for with ingenuity and my own personal time. I want to hire people who I believe in, who also believe in me and this project to help make this vision come to life, and I can only do that if you believe in it too. What do you say? Will you help me make a really amazing record?
