We are an idea, a passion, and a product. We have the skills, the knowledge, and the drive to create our vision but we need your help with funding to make this a reality.
Welcome to Kailua Brewing Company's Kickstarter Campaign Page! This is a dream Dustin Gomes and Netha Smoot have been working on since 2009. This all started with a humble homebrew kit and two Kailua kids with an appreciation for good beer. It evolved from an occasional hobby, to a weekly brewing session, into a passion, and then into the dream of opening our own brewery. Over the past 5 years, we have shared our beer with our friends, family and (honestly anyone who will try it)...let me tell you, the feedback we have received is amazing and it's fueling our desire to share our unique recipes with a broader audience...aka...you!
In fact, our beers have been entered in a variety of competitions over the last couple years, winning a gold medal for the Habanero Haven Amber Lager, as well as two silver and one bronze for the E.W.O.K. (Easy Weizen of Kailua). Kailua Brewing Company will be what we like to refer to as a "brewpub", which basically means it's a pub that brews and sells pints of beer on premise as well as serves food. It is smaller than a microbrewery, but bigger than Dustin's garage, and will be way more awesome! We plan on having a 10BBL brew house in the back and a bar up front. Our goal will be to create the small neighborhood bar feeling that Kailua is in dire need of. But most importantly, we will concentrate on producing small, consistent batches of the unique recipes that we have developed over the years.
It is important to note right off the bat that this is an "all or nothing" funding campaign. If we don't reach our goal, then we don't receive any money (and you don't pay), and of course, you won't receive any of the awesome rewards. Bummer! So don't forget to spread the word so we can make this campaign a success!
Awesome, so what will the money be used for? The money raised from this kickstarter campaign will be used as follows:
- We will also be contributing our own funds beyond this campaign, as well as seeking a loan to cover the other business costs. -
Where will you be located? We're currently seeking brewery space in the central/downtown Kailua area. Foot traffic will be key in our success so we're on the hunt for the perfect location!
What kind of beers will you brew? We plan to have 4 flagship ales on tap year-round, which include the Easy Weizen of Kailua (E.W.O.K.), Habanero Haven Amber Lager, Eastide IPA, and the Vanilla Cream Stout, as well as a rotation of seasonal/experimental beers.
What makes you different from the other craft breweries in Hawaii? We believe that any beer lover, novice to connoisseur, will rejoice in our fresh beers produced on-site with as much locally grown ingredients as possible. Having a local establishment with deep roots in the community will benefit everyone! We feel that our award winning local beers plus the community's support will be the ideal recipe for greatness!
THE SWAG (BACKER REWARDS):
Risks and challenges
The biggest risk with this project is getting all the permits and licenses needed to produce and sell beer. Though it should be a fairly seamless process, problems can always arise. One particular issue in the State of Hawaii is that in order to actually obtain a Brewpub license, we must have a signed lease in place before the license can actually be issued. That means we must risk being approved for the license while we commit to a long term lease.
With that said, we're confident that with our friends and colleagues in the food & beverage industry that we'll be able to tackle any licensing issues that arise.
Another risk is securing the proper space for the brewery. In Hawaii, this can be tough with limited affordable areas that also have the required specs to be able to house a brewery (floor load capacity, ceiling height, floor drain, etc). The space must be a perfect combination of affordability, location, and condition.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
