About

After stopping the rampage of financial monsters from destroying the world in the events from Debtzilla, top scientists discovered that the biomass left behind by the now slumbering monsters is extremely valuable.

It led to an explosive demand for biomass material and nations scrambled to gather and trade these materials. As the leader of a biomass production start-up, it falls upon your shoulders to secure essential biomass materials and reap the benefits of this global demand to keep the coffers flowing.

Kaiju Exchange is a 2-4 players family game that aims to illustrate the economic theories of the father of economics, Adam Smith. It is a light family game where the power of “the invisible hand” is illustrated through each player’s control of their supply of goods while trying to assess the demand of various goods through careful calculation and observation of other players actions.

The first 300 Kickstarter backers will get a Kickstarter Exclusive customized 8 sided dice which can be used to replace the 4 sided dice used in the game.

Grab a city and start producing Monster parts! You will love the customized monster parts which we have designed for the game.

Sell your monster biomass to produce new wondrous products in order to earn money, influences and monopolies!

Trade and earn favors with Banana Republic, an innovative AI Automaton who acts as the extra player. This will help you gain materials which you do not have, in the case all your competitors become jealous of your success and refuses to trade with you!

If you earn enough favors with Banana Republic, you can ally with it to unlock a new winning condition. If Banana Republic achieves victory, you will share the victory with Banana Republic.

Earn various special abilities and city upgrades that gives you a new gaming experience each time you play.

New global opportunities will arise every turn that gives a new opportunity to all players. Combine your city abilities and the global events to unleash new combos to help you get ahead in the game!

One key design philosophy of Capital Gains Studio is to design games that closely resemble real world finance mechanics. We always embark on an intensive research before designing any of our finance games and the gamification guide is a summary of our research. It also serves as an interesting insight on how the game is designed and serves as an introduction to the world of international trade. A hard copy of the guide will be included in every standard edition of the game and a preview of the gamification guide can be downloaded in the link below!

We have developed a series of finance theme games based on a shared universe in the fictional nation of Banana Republic where our company mascot, Debtzilla can be seen plotting to take over the world.

Wongamania: Banana Economy is a 2-5 player game that portrays the macro economics of Banana Republic and focuses on navigating the economic cycle while buying and selling stocks, bonds and properties.

Debtzilla is a 2-4 player co-operative game where you play as a budget strapped vigilante hero trying to take down Debtzilla before it destroys Banana Republic. You may need to take out a loan to buy those fancy gadgets but each loan you take on makes Debtzilla stronger..

Cryptocurrency is a 2-4 player game where you play as a CEO of a fintech company, trying to make riches through mining and trading of cryptocurrency. However, one of the cryptocurrency is a scam and the different clues are held by different players. It is up to you to deduce the scam coin and get rid of it, being it ruins your dream to riches!

The customized 8 sided die can be added on if you missed the early bird special.

If you wish to add on any of the optional buys, just add the SGD amount stated on the bundle you wish to purchase. If you are not quite sure how it works, feel free to message us! You can access to these add-ons during pledge manager.

For extra copies of Kaiju Exchange (up to 12 copies), just add the same pledge amount  to your pledge.

For more than 12 copies, please email us at info@capitalgainsgroup.com

Due to the uncertainties of the on-going trade war, we may adjust the shipping rates as the situation changes. The above estimated shipping rates are based on the current scenario that there are no tariffs being implemented on all goods shipped to US. We will be using a pledge manager to manage our kickstarter so that we are able to advise the actual shipping rates when it is nearer to the date of shipping and we assure our backers that we will be transparent and timely in our communication, similar to previous campaigns.

SELF COLLECTION OPTION FOR SINGAPOREAN BACKERS

We will be collaborating with Playnation to do a store pick-up at their board game cafe outlets. More details will be released later nearer to the shipping dates.

 US & EU FRIENDLY SHIPPING

This project is US-Friendly and EU-Friendly, and therefore no additional charges or fees will apply due to taxes or customs. If you do come across issues on tax and custom fees, do drop us an email and we will take care of it.

We also reserve the right to decline any shipping to countries with an active armed conflict or a country with a high chance of non-delivery. We will refund any pledges made in this case after a review with our logistics partners.

The expected delivery date of Kaiju Exchange is August 2020.

Kaiju Exchange was born as a result with a partnership with Singapore Polytechnic, School of Media, Arts and Design to help develop and publish outstanding students designed tabletop project. The topic given was to "design a tabletop game based on trade war" and the <<Glided Palm>> project, led by Rachael Lim and Ariel Tan was selected.

This publisher/student collaboration is the first in Singapore for the tabletop industry and we hope that this will help raise awareness among budding game designers that tabletop design is a viable career path. As of now, there is a lack of interest among Singapore's student population in pursuing a career tabletop game design and we hope that this collaboration will help to let students understand more about the development of tabletop games and the potential that this industry holds.

Singapore needs to increase the number of experienced tabletop designers and artists, to compete on an international level to produce high quality titles and we hope that the partnership between Capital Gains Studio and Singapore Polytechnic is able to achieve that.

Steve Ng was fascinated by games as a kid, and began creating games with pencil and paper from the age of 8. His games spoke of adventure and heroism, and proved popular amongst his peers. It was not until later in his years of education in game design did he discover the world of board games beyond Monopoly. Something ignited within him, calling him towards a path of designing board games. Yes, his favourite boardgame is Scythe. Steve is the designer of Cryptocurrency which won a gold award in International Serious Games Awards

Alan Bay (Smallguydoodle) is an independent artist that work on comic, board games and illustrations. His latest comic book 'Once Upon A Singapore... Traders' have been nominated for Singapore Book Award 2019.

Xeo Lye is the lead developer behind the games produced by Capital Gains Studio. Previously, he spent a decade in the financial world managing money, authoring financial books & blogs and giving public talks and later turned to the world of board game publishing to continue his passion in using board games to educate financial literacy. Xeo is the designer of Wongamania, Wongamania: Banana Economy and Debtzilla.

Jaslyn Lim has more than 15 years’ experience working in the banking and finance industry and continues to helm the finance role.  With an eye for detail, she helps with proof-reading of rule book etc, and also assists with the writing of educational guide. Unleashing her creativity juices, she participates actively in the brainstorming process during the creation of games.

Tifanny Maulida Rasulia is majoring in Illustration with Animation Design at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). She has produced many animation and graphic works during her studies. Joining the team in August as an intern, she has contributed in developing creative ideas to market the products.

About the Diploma in Game Design and Development (DGDD), Media Arts and Design (MAD) School, Singapore Polytechnic (SP)

DGDD has partnered with Capital Gains Studio (CGS) to tap into the creative minds of its students, to co-design and develop this financial board game. This collaboration is integrated into the Year 1 curriculum where students apply their analog game design principles into practice, from conceptualisation to fabrication.

DGDD guides students to explore the various pathways in the games industry with game design as the core. Through studio-based integrated modules, students experience authentic learning which is required in the Infocomm and Interactive Digital Media industry. Through collaborative activities, students learn to value diverse perspectives, teamwork, communication and helping to develop a global mindset.

Risks and challenges

Kaiju Exchange is our 6th game and our 5th crowdfunding campaign. By now, our team has a solid grasp on the process of designing, developing, manufacturing and delivering a high quality tabletop game. When it comes to a project like this, there are always risks regarding production and delivery that are beyond our control and may cause delays. We are confident that we should be able to deliver on Aug 2020

As with any foreign production/logistics, we may still be faced with unforeseen circumstances such as manufacturing and shipment delays or errors. If we were to meet with an issue, we promise to keep everyone updated and will share details of the problems and our solutions.

Check out our previous campaign on the kind of communication you can expect due to any manufacturing issues or shipping delays. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@capitalgainsgroup.com. Thank you.

We may produce additional copies for the Kickstarter editions of the game as a result of the manufacturing process and we will sell these excess copies through our website or through special events and conventions.

Thank you in advance for believing in us and supporting Kaiju Exchange!
