For its 8th annual film festival, Friday, November 14th to Sunday, November 16th, KAFFNY will move to taste-making Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The event will be held at Wythe Cinema in the swanky Wythe Hotel (80 Wythe Ave, Brooklyn, NY).
Launching our "Global Screening" platform, this year we are showing our two short programs online from the time of actual festival screening until 11/23, 11:59PM. Now anyone around the world can view our program! Proceeds shall be divided evenly with participating filmmakers.
On Friday, our opening night, we feature the well-known NY artist ROSTARR.
On Saturday, we present our KAFFNY Incubator exclusive secret preview of a feature film with mainstream Korean American stars. We also present Shorts Eclectic including the world premiere of The Peninsula, a documentary where New Zealanders ride motorcycles through North Korea into the South, and a video collaboration of Bora Yoon and artist U-Ram Choe.
On Sunday, we have our Shorts Competition, with Korean filmmakers across the world competing for Best Short.
This year, KAFFNY is also planning a distribution award with an industry partner, to secure distribution for a short film in the 2014 program.
Risks and challenges
KAFFNY has successfully funded two Kickstarter campaigns to date. We like to use this platform as a way to promote the annual festival, while offering discounts to our funders as a way to build loyalty.
This year, since we are an all-volunteer organization, we have become leaner and meaner in order to focus on branding and long term viability, while more fully leveraging technology to expand our reach. We have received support from the Ford Foundation Good Neighbor Committee, allowing us to explore these strategies.
Fulfillment is straightforward as we will ask our backers for which film(s) they plan to attend and the tickets will be available will call at the festival. For online viewing and name attribution, these will be handled digitally and via the internet.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
