About this project
Now, more than ever, the message of Dancing in Jaffa is critical, due to the recent events in Israel and Palestine.
Renowned ballroom dancer, Pierre Dulaine takes his belief that dance can overcome political and cultural differences and applies it to 11 year old Jewish and Palestinian Israelis.
What occurs is magical and transformative.
Ballroom dance teaches life skills: etiquette, self-esteem, discipline, and confidence. Most importantly, it teaches self-respect and respect for your partner. When Pierre started the program, the children were spitting on each other. At the end of 10 weeks, they were holding each other and respecting each other.
Pierre believes if we can change the children, we can change the future.
We have the ability to touch thousands of lives with this film and convert old conversations into new partnerships and community. Although the film takes place in Jaffa, racism, hatred and prejudice are global issues. This is a film about the power of art in a community with deep-seated resentment and prejudice.
It is a story of defying expectations and believing that we are all capable of change.
WHAT WE NEED & WHERE WE ARE
We are so pleased to have received support from the Israeli Broadcaster, Keshet, Righteous Persons Foundation, Shine Global, Fohs Foundation, and the Gesher Fund. We have participated in IFP's "Project Forum" and Film Independent's "Documentary Lab," as well as pitched the film at Good Pitch and the Hamptons International Film Festival "Pitch-In".
We now need money to finish the film.
We are three weeks away from a final cut but do not have the necessary funding. Your contribution will help us finish editing and license music rights so we can apply to film festivals.
By helping us finish the film, you will be a part of spreading the word that change is possible in a time where it is needed more than ever.
Support the future with Dancing in Jaffa.

Risks and challenges
Over the past two years, our team has had to coordinate across continents, which brought inevitable challenges. But we’ve done it, and we’re almost finished! As we wrap up our last stages of editing for Dancing in Jaffa, we will be pursuing distribution. Once we find our distributor, there may be delays in delivering DVDs and the availability of streaming as the distributor may want to wait until after theatrical release. However, we will get these rewards to our supporters as soon as humanly possible.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
