International shipping correction, iOS backers and yeast spectrometry at Mystic Brewery
Hey all! Amazing that we've passed our threshold already and a million thanks! Some quick answers for a few questions (you asked a lot -- some will be added to the FAQ!), and a fun trip to do spectral testing at Mystic Brewery:
International shipping for $100 reward: It was $60, but that was a typo -- chalk it up to too many late nights putting this together. International shipping for that reward is now $20, and only that high since we're shipping each item separately. I can't edit the reward description but we'll count it up at the end, so adjust accordingly.
iOS version: So, LOTS of people want to know if we'll FOR SURE going to do an iOS version of the software. Right now, we're 30% towards the threshold of 250 backers, since we're counting all higher rewards which include the $65 one. But even if we don't, the attachment will be adaptable to most webcams and built-in laptop cams, so it won't be useless. For now we're leaving things as they are. We're only on day 2 of 40 -- help get the word out and we'll make it!
Mystic Brewery trip: So to demonstrate (and explore, really) some diverse use cases, I want to post regular updates with demos and experiments showing real-world uses. This (along with browsing SpectralWorkbench.org) will give you a better idea of what you'll be able to do -- so if you do experiments yourself, post them at PublicLaboratory.org or contact me and I'll post them here.
... so today I visited Brian at Mystic Brewery, a small brewery outside of Boston, because he's a biochem PhD and had some ideas about using a spectrometer to streamline their yeast counting. We did some encouraging tests and you can read all about it here, and see the data: http://publiclaboratory.org/notes/warren/8-28-2012/spectral-yeast-tests-mystic-brewery
