At its core, Standstill is the bastard love child of the Americana survival horror genre and a romantic Greek tragedy. The dramatic table is set here in the opening chapter when you are introduced to Mason and Luna, two young people very much in love, but that love is going to be tested under unimaginable circumstances over the course of their story. I say their story because Standstill is big enough to sustain multiple storylines over time and that’s how I’ve been writing it. As it progresses from chapter to chapter, the story is visceral, emotional, and, in some cases, not for the faint of heart.
Over 7 billion people live on planet Earth. What if 6 billion of them suddenly and inexplicably stopped moving – like toys that ran out of batteries. What would happen if the world came to a… Standstill.
Hi, my name is Justin Gray. I’m an author, graphic novelist, super backer and have been a part of 12 successful kickstarter campaigns. I wanted to tell you about a survival horror-scifi comic that artist Jimmy Broxton and I are creating called STANDSTILL.
This summer we launched a campaign for our first issue of the series and – thanks to hundreds of gracious supporters here on kickstarter – we almost doubled our funding goal. We’re back with issue 2, which has a higher page count and exclusive alternate covers by John Broglia and Darick Robertson. You can read more about these incredibly talented artists below.
Standstill began with a simple yet terrifying idea – what would happen if 90% of people in the world suddenly stopped moving? They were alive, paralyzed and prisoners in their own bodies. That is a very dark beginning but then I wondered where would you go from there? What kinds of people would be left and what would the world become. We all have some experience with apocalyptic fiction – it’s everywhere in many different forms. However, it doesn’t always include all the crazy things and real dangers that could take place.
You might be thinking I have some pretty dark stuff going on in my mind. Yes, okay, but this stuff gets there because I live between a famous prison and a nuclear power plant. I regularly hear emergency warning system tests. Every year I get a large packet of information about what to do in a real emergency, which ALSO inspired one of the pledge rewards below.
Broxton and I are using the Kickstarter platform because we want to build an audience and progress toward finding the right publisher to help us move to retail stores. There’s a huge comics community on Kickstarter with open minds and diverse tastes who enjoy supporting creators and helping them bring their ideas to life.
Broxton’s art and storytelling are top notch and it takes a great deal of time and craft to do what he does so brilliantly. With your help, Kickstarter allows me to raise the funds to pay these artists and cover production and printing.
A NEW PLEDGE LEVEL HAS BEEN ADDED
If you see something from the campaign that isn't included in your selected reward tier send us a message on Kickstarter and we'll be happy to help with your add-on during the campaign through an over-pledge.
EVERY BACKER OF THE ALTERNATE COVER TIERS FEATURING EITHER JOHN BROGLIA OR DARICK ROBERTSON OR BOTH GETS THE TRIFOLD/PINUP SEEN BELOW
I live sandwiched between a major prison and a nuclear power plant so every year I get a strategic planning guide on what to do in the event of a nuclear accident. I have yet to get a brochure on what to do if people escape from the prison, which has happened before. As a result, I was inspired to create a survival brochure for you guys based on the Standstill that also doubles as a frameable art print from John Broglia's variant cover! John was also kind enough to provide the illustrations for the interior. This is a two-sided brochure where the interior is full of information and illustrations and the flip side is the Dottie Pinup.
If you missed the first campaign, you can pick up both printed issues of Standstill and the three mini-prints illustrated by Broxton.

Risks and challenges
The estimated delivery date for the second issue of Standstill and the rewards is January 2018 and Justin & Broxton will do everything in their power to deliver on time. However, please keep in mind that this is a projected date. Unexpected delays can occur during the production and shipping of any product.
We know sometimes packages disappear or arrive much later than even I imagined. Some have been literally eaten by family dogs.
The money raised will go towards compensating the talented artists, covering printing and distributing the finished comic as well as Kickstarter fees. In the event we exceed our goal, the additional funds will go toward the added cost for the extra rewards as well as production on issue #3 should we be so lucky!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
