Hello and thanks for checking out SAFE. My name is Justin Zimmerman, and this marks the 4th time I've brought an independent comic project to Kickstarter. So far, success! But I'm going bigger and bolder with this one, and I'm hoping you'll join me for another ride.
Locally and professionally printed. Perfect bound. Wraparound exclusive cover. Tons of digital extras. Signed prints galore. My first color project. My first project featuring a guest essay, and by "Grand Theft Auto V" star Steven Ogg, no less. With the art wrapped, 100% of the proceeds straight to the production of the book.
And a 60-day window because I want SAFE to spread like an insanely infectious zombie plague across the entire world.
Updated as the campaign progresses...
Some examples of interior and poster art that will be melting your eyeballs should you back SAFE. You'll notice that these are not repeats from the video...
SAFE's already snagged some advance praise.
“Every time I thought SAFE was going one way, it slapped me in the face and went the other! Beautiful storytelling! I had to pick my jaw up off the floor." - Decapitated Dan, Comic Related
"Justin does the seemingly impossible with SAFE: he creates a fresh take on zombies while simultaneously taking the genre back to its Romero roots." - Mike Lawrence, Dark Horse Presents, Amp!
"SAFE features gorgeous artwork and an edgy and compelling script. The twists will keep you up all night!” - Walter Lovett, Witinradio
“SAFE is relentless. 5 out of 5 stars.” - Dan Morrill, Comics Forge
"Zombies, action, and suspense aside, SAFE is a story with a heart. It's the bigger questions that had me - the 'what would I do's?'” - Steven Ogg, “GTA V,” “He Never Died”
EVERYONE who contributes to SAFE, regardless of amount, will be included. Your names will be represented with the book in what I hope will be a fun and truly unique way.
It's important to me to print locally and as sustainably as possible, and that's why I'm happy to announce I'll be making SAFE with printing partners Stevens Integrated Solutions. This will be the best book I could possibly bring to your door, with incredible paper, a spot-uv cover, unbelievable color for each of our approximately 50 (and hopefully more) pages, etc. And I will be there every step of the way.
SAFE is on Facebook, with separate photo albums created for you to preview interior art, posters, early designs, behind-the-scenes photos, etc. Come check it all out HERE.
Russ and I have been down the ol' Kickstarter road a couple times before. He illustrated THE KILLING JAR in its entirety, and drew two stories and several covers and posters for my ensemble book, OTHER WORLDS. If you missed both successful campaigns, take a look at the links above and the pics below. Both books are available as backer rewards. You can see for yourself while Mike Lawrence (of Amp! fame) calls us, "A match made in hell."
Domestic packages will be sent USPS Priority. This means insurance and tracking. Regardless of destination, books will be bagged, backed, overpacked and loaded for bore.
Oh BOY do I have stretch goals. Pages upon pages of director's cut material for a bigger book, new limited edition lobby cards, buttons, film and more. But one step at at time...
People have told me that zombie projects are played out. That socially-oriented topics are boring. That independent comics can never match the quality of their mainstream counterparts. I'd like to prove them wrong. I'd like to create an amazingly printed, locally produced, incredible zombie comic that George Romero would read between takes on his next flick.
If you'd like to help, I'll see you out there.
Risks and challenges
Folks, I've delivered several Kickstarter books on time and on budget. I've printed my books locally every time and have a great relationship with multiple local printers. I am communicative throughout the process and take my responsibility to my backers 100% seriously. I see no issues with delivering SAFE in a timely and professional manner.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
