Month End Summary #5: August 2017
Good afternoon! It's time for another Month End Summary report for the Big Book of Maps for Tabletop Roleplaying Games. August was another highly productive month with 33 new maps released (averaging more than a new map every day) as well as 80 new map icons in four new themes.
As of now the Month End Summary downloads are available via the Digital Distribution Tool for all digital-level backers.
While we pushed way ahead of schedule again this month (breaching the 5-months ahead of schedule mark), we didn't quite get as much released as I had hoped due to an unexpected increase (30-or-so) in the number of publisher-commissioned maps for the day job; as well as a the release of a couple of other books I wrote. But as it stands, we're pushing on nearer to wrapping up the creation phase of this project very soon. If I don't manage to get all the maps finished in September (my hope), we're likely to hit very early October.
Summary Report –
As of this afternoon, the project stats are as follows:
- 150 Maps Released
- 320 Map icons Released
- 156 days Ahead of Release Schedule
- The Entire Project is 76.92% complete
Custom Maps –
As of today, I have map requests in for all but three custom map backers. I've moved those three maps to the back of the schedule and have sent reminder e-mails to those backers. I will continue to send weekly requests via e-mail to them until we wrap the project. However, if I have not heard back from them by the end of the creation phase, I won't delay delivery of the project.I will instead fill the slots with maps of my own design. They will still get their custom maps they pledged for whenever they do reply, but those won't be included in the book.
I suspect there maybe an e-mail/spam filter issue for these three backers, so if you backed as a custom map backer, but have not seen an e-mail from me, please contact me immediately.
Other News –
I have already started the book layout process including theme, structure, and creating the index / table of contents which will function as a sort of easy reference including map thumbnail, map title, page number(s), and map # (for reference to VTT maps files).
The organization of the book will include two versions of each map on either side of a page. The "Player Map" will be displayed first, followed on the inverse with the "GM Map" (which includes room numbers and hidden/secret areas). The books will not include the VTT (plain) versions of the maps. It just didn't make sense to me for them to be included outside of the digital format backers are already being provided.I don't have an exact page count yet, but this does mean that the book will clock in at well over 450 pages.
The VTT maps will be released as individual products on DriveThruRPG when the book is released to the public. These will be priced at $2 each. Backers at the $20 and higher will be provided an optional link to a free bundle including that includes them all just in case you want to manage your VTT files via your DTRPG library.
This also clarifies the value of the $20+ pledge level as about $450.00 US. If you're a backer at the $10 level, and would still like in on these huge savings for the VTT maps you can still upgrade your pledge level via the "My Account" section in the Digital Distribution Tool. This upgrade option will continue to be available for the rest of September, but the upgrade option will be disabled in October.
Here's a quick look at what was released via the Digital Distribution Tool in August 2017:
In Conclusion –
August was a busy month. With the creation phase of the project nearing completion, I'm hoping my early jump on the layout process will mitigate any delays in delivery of the final product.
I appreciate your support so much, and have had a fantastic time working on this project for you all!
Have a great weekend, and please stay safe.
