Midweek Update #2, New Sample Map & Digital Distribution
Good morning everyone! I hope this week has been a great one for you. It’s time for another midweek update for The Big Book of Maps (for Tabletop Roleplaying Games). The kickstarter has continued to progress steadily all week thanks to your support, and I’d like to take the opportunity to welcome all the new backers who have joined us since the last update! Thanks so much for your support of this project!
As I type this the project is a few pledges shy of being 1500% funded! We have over 570 backers, and have unlocked a total of 11 bonus maps (22 if you are counting the additional Taverns and Storefronts Mini-Maps).
Since our last update we have unlocked two additional stretch goals including “Loot! The Hoard” and “Merchant Caravan” (adding 20 new map icons to the collection) and we are only a few dollars away from unlocking the first of the Super Stretch Goals and instantly adding 32 extra map icons to our growing collection of map icon sets!
New Sample Map PDF –
Today I’m adding yet another new sample map to the kickstarter line up! The Sewer sample map PDF includes samples of all three version of the digital map: VTT-ready, GM Map, and Player Map.
More About the Digital Distribution Tool –
As I explained in this update earlier in the month, the twice-weekly map and map icon releases (and periodically sporadic release of bonus and backer custom maps) will be delivered to backers via a custom web-based application that I am developing: The Digital Distribution Tool.
I have completed the software development for this application, and the beta version is currently being stress tested and touched-up for final release to you all as soon as project funds clear.
For those who are interested to know more, I have put together the following four-minute video that takes a complete walkthrough of the Digital Distribution Tool.
Video tutorials are not my foray, so please excuse the quality if it seems rushed.
Hopefully this video will help everyone know what to expect when the Digital Distribution Tool URL is provided as backer rewards begin to roll out.
Alternative Digital Delivery Methods –
I have had more than a few backers contact me to express a desire for a download option alternative to the day-to-day uploads provided by the twice-weekly map releases. While having content released multiple times a week is ideal for some folks, others would rather download larger "chunks" of those releases with fewer visits to the Digital Distribution Tool.
To provide an alternative for those who want an alternative to weekly releases, I will be providing two additional release options:
1) When all the maps and map icons for the project are completed, I will be combing the entirety of the projects content into a single massive download. And, it will be massive – likely upwards of half a Terabyte (500+ GB) of map files. This will be made available as an option in the “Get My Rewards” section of the Digital Distribution Tool once everything for the project is complete.
2) Alternatively, I will be putting together a download option containing all maps released during release summary updates on Kickstarter. Presently, summary updates will happen at the end of each month as determined by your votes in this poll. These downloads containing all of the content released during the month will be available in the “Get My Rewards” section of the Digital Distribution tool, and remain available from the first of the month through until the next summery update post to Kickstarter.
I am open to suggestions for other alternative delivery methods if anyone has other ideas, but these two additional options seem to address the concerns of all the backers who have contacted me about it.
In Conclusion –
I have been amazed at the continual progress this project is making here on Kickstarter. It seems every time I stop in to respond to messages that we have picked up a dozen new backers and dramatically increased project funding. I am very appreciative of the faith you all have put in me and this project.
I make an effort to update the project page content whenever a new question arises, and hopefully I’ve answered most questions sufficiently. However, if you have any lingering questions or concerns, please send me a message or post a comment. I’m glad to get a response to you as soon as possible.
The third Weekly Featured Addition will be announced this coming Sunday, and it is *HUGE* (that’s a hint by the way). I’ve teamed up with folks soon to be releasing new projects to bring some very interesting new content to The Big Book of Maps (for Tabletop Roleplaying Games), and I’m chomping at the bit to let you all know about it!
Stay safe and have a great week folks!
