A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
About this project
A kayak that goes where you do - imagine the endless possibilities!
Imagine a kayak that you can throw over your shoulder, store in your closet and fit into the trunk of your car! Imagine a kayak that allows you to explore further, travel lighter and do more - this is the passion and the inspiration behind the Just In Case Kayak - a super portable kayak made for small spaces and big dreams.
KickStarter, we heard you, and we are back, better than ever. We are relaunching our campaign from earlier this year to bring you the complete set of features that create an effortless kayaking experience!
Kayaking doesn't have to be a cumbersome activity - keep it light, simple and on-the-go. Bring our kayak on a camping, hiking or cycling trip without thinking twice! Embrace the tranquility, excitement, and fun of a kayaking trip without the hassle - our kayaks store easily in your trunk, closet or under your bed.
Justin Case Kayak has been updated to include a range of amazing features for the ultimate weekend kayak experience.
Living in a cramped rental in Edmonton's inner city, owning a kayak always seemed out of reach for us. We didn't have the storage or the wheels to lug a traditional kayak around, and figured we would have to wait years to take up the hobby in earnest.
One of co-founders, Inna, was shopping for outdoor equipment when inspiration struck. Inspired by tents, we examined the hard-shelled kayak, and figured out what was essential and what we could do without to save on weight and size.
That's how the idea was born.
We've come a long way - now using the latest materials and technologies, we bring you a modern variation of the kayak. We've been gathering feedback and testing the kayak with our fans and friends here in Edmonton, and now we are ready to bring it to you!
We've streamlined the assembly to take even less time! Watch the team assemble the kayak in less than ten minutes (footage courtesy of CBC)!
Choose between a carbon fiber or titanium frame of your kayak: if you're looking for the lightest kayak on the market, go for the carbon fiber; for indestructibility, choose titanium. And don't forget to grab yourself a custom t-shirt!
Important: shipping will be recalculated for each individual pledge following the successful campaign. If your shipping is less than the estimate, you will be refunded the difference. If your shipping is more than the estimate (or the pledge has no shipping involved) you will see an additional shipping charge.
MEET THE TEAM
Can't wait to get your hands on the kayak? We understand the excitement! We expect to ship the kayaks to you in February. Once the campaign is over, you will receive a survey confirming the details and securing your pledge. With over two years in the making, we are thrilled to be bringing JCK your way:

Since the last KickStarter, we were able to streamline our logistics, which allowed us to iron out a lot of kinks. We've also improved the way we source and manufacture our kayak materials. What does this mean for you - a better quality kayak and less money to get production off the ground.
Here is how we are spending the money we raise:
