About this project
Hi and THANK YOU for taking a look at my project! If you enjoy visceral, pierce-you-to-the-core stories, this one's for you!!
My name is Tricia Nolan and I'm the writer, director and producer of Jump The Gun. I'm making an intense and disturbing thriller that will run roughly 12-14 minutes in length.
JUMP THE GUN is based upon"An Occurrence at Owl Creek Super Cinema 14," written by David Ballard. Roughly 18 years ago, I erroneously received a copy of David's short story in the mail. I was casting another film at the time, and the post office put his literary submission in my P.O. box by mistake. Thank goodness for human error: that simple mistake led to us becoming great creative collaborators, in addition to good friends. I previously adapted two of David's other short stories. They were the basis for my films "Rattler" and "Push."
JUMP THE GUN will mark my 3rd adaptation of David's work. And when you pledge your support for this campaign, you're not only helping this female filmmaker and becoming a member of Team JTG, you're also honoring the work and memory of David Ballard. For sadly, this brilliant writer and loving Father of two left us on July 3, 2016, at the age of 54. To say his death was untimely would be an understatement.
SIMPLE. Run a killer Kickstarter campaign while pre-producing the short, wrap the campaign, thank everyone profusely, spend one additional week finishing up pre-pro, then go out with a killer army of a crew, and shoot this baby sometime during the last 2 weeks of August (2016, of course!).
What I'm also doing is, following in the footsteps of Damien Chazelle, director of WHIPLASH. Like Damien, I too am pulling the end of Act 1 out of my feature script and shooting it as a stand-alone short. The film will both entertain and serve as proof of concept and my directing abilities, while also helping to facilitate financing and casting of the feature.
My plan is to shoot for 3 days before Labor Day, and then immediately go into post production. Sundance's late deadline is September 26th and we will submit the film for consideration.
OF COURSE, this short film must, and will be, stellar! Its primary purpose is to deliver on the promise of the feature. Which means... the acting must be superb, the fight scene must be choreographed and executed with precision, the cinematography must immerse the audience in the emotional journey of our lead character, and the sound design must completely envelop and transport us. In short, the production value must be high.
I need to pay the actors, the crew, cover location fees, production insurance, equipment rental fees, feed and hydrate everyone, get them to-and-from set, etc. etc. It all adds up mighty fast, and even with countless favors being pulled, and crazy steal-of-a-deal deals being made, this short can't be made well, for less than 30k. But I only need 13K to get me there!! My financial goal includes the 8.5% that gets kicked to Kickstarter and Amazon for their support in making this happen.
FYI - I haven't put up hard budget line item amounts here, because I'm wheeling & dealing right this minute to get the best deals possible. Feel free to fire off any/all questions you may have. I believe in absolute transparency!!
WHY JUMP THE GUN?
I love film and the power of story, and JUMP THE GUN is a powerful, gripping and intense story. If you love thrillers - dramatic thrillers, psychological thrillers... JTG is for you!
JUMP THE GUN will also be a button-pusher that can change the conversation about guns to a more productive one. We're hardwired to believe the narrative of our own fear. But just because we feel "IT," we don't have to take "AN" action or "THE" action. We can exercise restraint.
I use the word "Team" because no one can make ANYTHING on their own! You can read a bit about me by clicking on the "See full bio" link towards the top of the page, on the right. But here are a few of the key members of Team JTG who will be lending their talents to bring this short film to life:

Risks and challenges
Ok so... Kickstarter's template has a big BLANK WINDOW in this section where's I'm supposed to talk about the inherent risks in you supporting a project like this. Hmmm.... I deliver. I always deliver! I actually have a reputation for being the "On time and on budget girl." A friend of mine says "I always under promise and over deliver." I think that's smart and a sure way to look like a superstar!! But I, Tricia Nolan, am going to make a gripping short film, as promised in my video... although yes, I could get hit by lightening, like two women just did down at the Jersey Shore! SO... barring any freak accidents, I'll be making this short film. You have my word!!!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
