Multi-tiered learning opportunities
Performing, creating and responding to music are the fundamental music processes in which humans engage. Students, particularly in grades K-4, learn by doing. Singing, playing instruments, moving to music, and creating music enable them to acquire musical skills and knowledge that can be developed in no other way.
In addition to Core and NGSS applications, this book addresses the following National Standards for Music Education:
- Standard 1: Singing alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.
- Standard 3: Improvising melodies, variations, and accompaniments.
- Standard 8: Understanding the relationships between music, the other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.
Vibrant illustrations help readers connect with Junior’s world. We’re thrilled to include the beautiful artwork of artist and professor Margaret Pence, whose work has been published in science educational resources and featured in a variety of gallery shows.

We’ve been thrilled with the initial responses to this book! These books are being read to babies as well as elementary-aged children.
- Delightful! (grandparent)
Delightfully refreshing. I loved watching the faces of the little ones listening to this lovely book... It's a fun book to read and sing and dance over and over again!
- Children will clamor to sing and dance again and again (K-5 librarian/media specialist)
...Rhyming couplets set the tone for the lively text and vivid illustrations within a circular frame capture the antics of the curious bush babies. The story is followed by bush baby facts and a colorful glossary of the wildlife encountered in the story... PreSchool teachers, homeschoolers and parents will get a lot of mileage from this little book...

The Jumpin’ Junior Team
These authors and illustrators love to teach children! With over 50 years of combined classroom experience, they are excited to share their passions with children, parents, and teachers.
Margaret is an amazing artist! She is a professional illustrator for medical and science education publications. As an adjunct professor, she shares her knowledge and skills with college students as well. Her love of animals, wildlife and nature is evident in the beautiful illustrations found in our Jumpin' Junior books.
Young readers will love the friendly critters that Margaret brings to life in our books.
An elementary and middle school music teacher, Tiffany was inspired to begin writing music after the birth of her first child. She and her family have enjoyed performing her playful animal tunes at the zoo. She has recorded her songs with husband Jeff, and the singles are available for download.
Tiff's positive energy is contagious, and her original children's songs found in our books get everyone jumping, smiling, and singing.
Jennifer has always had a passion for nature and animals. She has experience in the fields of education, science and advertising. Most recently, Jennifer has developed multimedia science education modules and other science materials for K-12 students.
Jenny writes the fun science facts for our Jumpin' Junior books, and also contributes to writing our stories.
The story of Jumpin’ Junior was inspired by an energetic bush baby named Junior who lived at Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester NY. He was an ambassador for the Zoo’s outreach and education program.
Tiff wrote an original children’s song and dance about Junior, and performed it with her husband Jeff during special events at the Seneca Park Zoo. Then, Jenny, a science writer and Margaret, an animal illustrator, joined with Tiff to create the book Jumpin’ Junior: A Bush Baby’s tale. This is the first book in their Science, Story and Song series.
In fact, here's the music video of the Bush Baby song that inspired the book. Watch for Jumpin' Junior's animal friends!
Look for more books in the future!
With the funds raised, we’ll print and distribute the Jumpin’ Junior - A Bush Baby’s Tale books and rewards.
