In the last year, I created twelve mixed media illustrations of the Western Zodiac signs, each inspired by the myths and shapes of the constellations. With your help, I’d like to produce these into twelve month wall calendar for 2018.
Astrology is humanity’s search for our own reflections in the night sky. Each viewer projects an image of themselves on to the stars, and the stars reflect back powerful avatars. The constellations and myths of the twelve zodiac signs have been observed for thousands of years across multiple continents. From classical mythology to Renaissance art to daily horoscopes, each era has its own way of keeping alive the stories that are woven into our collective consciousness.
Each image started as a series of sketches, attempting to capture the spirit and movement of each icon. Aries the Ram charges forth, Taurus the bull bucks, and Scorpio arches his tail, ready to strike. Each sketch was refined into a final pencil drawing, applied to patterned fabric, and rendered in acrylic, ink, and colored pencil. An overlay of the zodiac constellation was then embroidered on top of each image, tying the astrological myth back to its astronomical constellation.
The zodiac is a circle of twelve constellations that appear in the apparent path of the sun at different times of the year. These signs have functioned as an astronomical calendar and are still used today in astrology and horoscopes. Check the chart above to see which sun sign you were born under.

All reproductions are being professionally printed through vendors I have used previously, they are all high quality and accurate colors. I firmly believe that art should be accessible to everyone, so even if you only have a few bucks to contribute, you can get a nice postcard to pin to your wall.
Since I’m rewarding people with a variety of products that can be ordered in multiples, a lot of the additional rewards will be handled as Add-ons. That means if you want a 3 prints and a calendar, you can pledge for a calendar, then obtain all of your prints as add-ons. This is a great option for holiday gifting, sharing, and people who just want all the things.
Add-ons are available for any pledge above $25 within the United States.
- Set of 12 Postcards- $15
- Digital wallpaper set- $2
- Art prints- $20
- Calendars- $20
How Do Add-Ons Work?
- 1- Make a pledge of $25 or more
- 2- Press the “manage your pledge” button above
- 3- Increase your pledge in the “Pledge Amount” box for the total of the add-ons you want. For example, if you want to add on two art prints, you would increase your pledge by $40
- 4- At the end of the Kickstarter (December 1st) you will receive a survey where you can indicate which specific add ons you want to receive.
The only rewards currently available for international backers are the postcards and digital wallpapers. Shipping costs out of the US vary widely so I’m not able to put a single price on these. However, if you see something you like, please message me with the items you want and your location. I will calculate shipping and set up a custom reward for you.
Your pledges are going towards covering printing, shipping, and Kickstarter fees. The percentages will vary depending on how many of each product are purchased, but here is an approximate breakdown:
- Kickstarter fees- 8%
- Printing costs- 30%
- Shipping- 10%
- Packaging, frames, labels, etc- 10%
- Money for me to use to make more art- 42%
I set my goal low to cover a minimum printing cost, but the more you pledge the more I can print, and the more of my art I can distribute. After printing, shipping, and fees, the remainder goes to me. The more monetary support this can generate, the more I’m able to access the resources I need to make more art, and the more art I can make available to you in the next year.
Even if you can't pledge now, you can help out this campaign by following me on social media and sharing links to this project with your friends. Find me on:
Risks and challenges
This project is very low risk. The art is already completed, I'm already working on the calendar design, and I have quotes for printing and shipping. The main risk is that you won’t end up buying enough and you’ll have jealous friends steal your art from you.
My challenges are going to include shipping an assortment of items during the holidays, tracking add-ons since I’m dealing with twelve different variations of each product, and the hassles of shipping the glass-framed original artwork. But I'm a Virgo and we're supposed to be really good with organization.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
