About this project
Woodfalls – an exploitation thriller set in rural England about a family of travellers and the conflict their presence brings when moving to a new town. It will cross boundaries and question the value of life.
The writers and co-directors of Woodfalls are Ben Simpson and David Campion, of Half Man Half Spam Films. They began filming their first feature Patrol Men (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1394360/) in 2008, which was later released in February 2011 by Crab Tree Films and has been distributed nationwide across the UK.
We want Woodfalls to be an artful, shocking, emotional thriller that will bring something new to the subculture of exploitation film.
Thanks for visiting our Kickstarter page – Please watch the Kickstarter video above to meet the directors and learn more about Woodfalls!
What is Woodfalls about?
When a family of travellers come to a rural town conflict ensues amongst the locals. Stigmatized as “gypsies” they are unwelcomed. Woodfalls revolves around the children of the family, Billy and his sister Rebecca. Billy is trying to fit in after being misunderstood for his unconventional way of life and Rebecca is discovering her sexuality in effort to escape the conservative nature of a traveler’s religious culture.
Billy makes friends whilst gaining a few enemies, putting his family in danger and stirring up conflict in the small town. As things heat up, Rebecca’s innocence is tainted and the family breaks. Acceptance would be key but is inevitably absent in this exploitation thriller that questions the value of life and what’s worth putting up a fight for.
What inspires us to make this film?
We think the story of Woodfalls is relevant in current UK society due to all of the turmoil happening towards travellers and their communities. The film depicts a traveller’s culture in a positive light, honing in on a theme that we’re not so different after all and to accept people for what they are. Though the film has violence and tragedy, it is a story that coincides with today’s culture and can reach audiences with truth and honesty.
Campion came up with the central idea for Woodfalls after his family and friends told him real events regarding discriminated travellers, which is what this story is exaggerated upon. He went to Simpson with the idea and together they decided this would be a great follow up to their first feature, allowing them to exercise their directing talents with a completely different subject. Julia Volonts (producer) came onto the project after after reading the script and seeing its success potential.
Where are we in production?
Simpson and Campion have been working on the script for Woodfalls over the past six months. It was sent to many trusted advisors who have provided wonderful feedback. They now feel it is solid and ready to come alive.
Our production schedule has been set, we plan to start filming in March 2012, though immediately after funding we will begin casting, extending our crew, and securing shoot locations.

Can you exceed the goal?
Yes! The more funds we raise, the more resources we will have to make our film. Any additional funds we get will most likely go to special effects and post production editing, which are two of the most costly points on our list.
What happens if the goal isn’t reached in time?
If we don’t reach our goal, Woodfalls receives nothing, no funding. Let's work together and do this! You can pledge as much as you'd like, from $1- endless!
Can donors increase pledges once they have been made?
Yes again! If you have already donated, and are signed in to your account, then instead of a green “Back This Project” button on our page, there should be a blue “Manage Your Donation” button. Click that, and you can enter a new amount or choose a new incentive!
What do donors receive for giving?
We spent time thinking up rewards that we felt you would enjoy upon donating. This is a fun way for you to be a part of the project as well. Our greatest reward is a trip to London! Just look to the right for more information.
