What Is This?
-A DIY fashion show!
I am a VCU fashion design student, and my project is to create and show a fashion collection in my hometown, and then use the clothing from that collection as items for sale on my Etsy shop, which will launch at the same time as the show. The collection will have 8 looks for spring/summer and 8 looks for fall/winter.
I will be showing my collection at the Lorton Workhouse Arts Center in Northern Virginia, and selling a selection of tops and jackets from the collection at a reception after the show. I will be building my own runway from scratch, and finding volunteers to be models.
Goals Of The Project
-Show my work and raise awareness!
I'm hoping to help bring the world of fashion to the rising art community of Northern Virginia and host a fun event for people who are curious about the industry and fashion design as an art form, as well as showcase my work and what I've learned.
I also wish to have lookbooks (booklet of photographs of the clothing) printed for use in my portfolio, as well as build an online lookbook for my Wordpress blog.
The show will take place in spring, 2012.
Funding Will Support:
- fabric and notions
- details of the show (clothing racks, chairs, runway, lighting)
- photographs of the clothing
- printing a lookbook
If you don't know how Kickstarter works, your card is not charged until the project is 100% funded. If I don't reach my goal, my project will simply not be funded. When you decide to 'back this project' (minimum $1), the site will ask you how much you wish to give and will then redirect you to pay through your amazon/paypal account. I've done it, totally painless. After the project is successful, your card will be charged the amount that you pledged and I will have the opportunity to contact you about your rewards.
Your generous donations will help me launch my artistic career! Feel free to contact me, and I thank you immensely for your support and consideration!
