Saving the Best for First!
Well, that was relatively painless! Thanks to everyone for supporting my campaign.
So, now that the "Will it fund?" question has been asked and answered, it's time to have relax and learn more about all the games inside the book. PREPARE THYSELVES!
I don't know if it's really the BEST Parsely game, but there's no doubt it was the first. ACTION CASTLE, while being light on both action and castles, is easy to run, a hoot to play and remains my most popular game...ever. So much so that while walking in Grand Central Station late one night, I passed by a young, blue-haired couple who yelled, "HEY! It's the Action Castle guy!" When I turned around they made the "torch hands" gesture and shouted, "AAACCTION CASSSTLE!" It was great. The logo, illustrated by my pal and frequent collaborator Manning L. Krull (more on Manning's work in a later update!), is a painfully obvious homage to the ZORK series.
Every classic needs a sequel, and so it came to pass: ACTION CASTLE II takes place "many years" after the first game, a time when the kingdom seeks a new champion. The game features multiple endings and a bucket full of references to the original ACTION CASTLE.
YOU NOW HAVE THE BUCKET. IT IS FULL OF REFERENCES.
The final (?) part of the trilogy, ACTION CASTLE III is an old-school dungeon crawl (heavy on the action this time!) where the player must find and recruit a party of NPCs to help them explore the ruins of the castle. Pro tip: don't let the elf shoot the food!
I hope everyone has fun playing these Parsely games, as well as all the others. They'll get their own write-ups in future updates. Until then....
