We're bringing our flagship series back with issue 13 of Apocoliptic Dreams, a 28 page black and white comic with fresh new exciting stories that serve as a great starting point for new readers.
20 years ago 3 high school friends had a dream of making comic books, and they turned that dream into a reality by forming Outer Edge Comics and publishing their own creations in a zine-sized book called Apocoliptic Dreams.
Outer Edge Comics was a staple of the indie comics scene in Toronto in the mid 1990s, following in the footsteps of other great localized indie comics of the time. Unfortunately, after a few brief years, life got in the way and our flagship title Apocoliptic Dreams ceased production with issue 12.
It's been 20 years since our first book hit the shelves, and what better way to jump back into the game than with a 20th anniversary spectacular, taking original fans right from the end of issue 12 to present-day, and introducing new fans to characters through new open story lines.
It's also been 20 years since we attended our first comic convention, and that convention is now called FanExpo and is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, so we thought what better way to celebrate our return than to rejoin the convention scene and celebrate our 20th along with their 20th at FanExpo in Toronto this coming August 2014.
The good news is that the stories for issue 13 have all been finished, all writing, penciling, & inking have been done. The cover artwork and layout process has begun, so everything is pretty much ready to go and humming along at a smooth rate. We've also started cleaning up the artwork from the original Apocoliptic Dreams #1 so we can give newcomers a glimpse into where we've come from.
So what's the money for? Well, we're doing this project as a labour of love, and the funds will be used for securing a booth at the 20th anniversary Fan Expo show as well as printing the rewards, namely the new Apocoliptic Dreams #13, touched up AD1, and Gunslinger and Shadow Weaver anthology collections.
Risks and challenges
As we said before, issue 13 is almost completely done already, and the reissue of issue 1 is about 1/3 of the way complete. The graphic novels collecting the Gunslinger and Shadow Weaver stories are also well underway, so creating the materials for printing is not a problem, as it's almost all already done.
Having published our own book for over 4 years means we know what we're doing, and are able to meet deadlines and work with printers, and in our personal professional lives since Outer Edge Comics had stopped publishing, we've worked closely with printers on our projects for other industries, so we know the business well enough to get the product printed and ready to ship.
We don't have much experience with shipping, however, can't see a big hurdle to climb on that one, as the post office will do plenty of hand-holding to get our books packed and processed and sent off to each and every backer.
So really, there's virtually no risk or challenge to the fulfillment of this project, so you should pledge with confidence knowing that once we hit our goal, you will be getting your book(s)!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
