The brand new creator-owned comic book series from Source Point Press, Up the River, is a 21-issue story carefully and meticulously crafted by writer Travis McIntire. As a young boy Syl witnesses the murder of his superhero father in the streets of Third City. Years later, Syl and his younger brother Arnie set out with the crew of a river boat to take him up the treacherous Hard Silt River to find answers. Set in a uniquely created post-apocalyptic future that is both horrific and fascinating, Up the River is an adventure story that puts a fresh twist on the idea of super-powered humans and a strong emphasis on character development. The comic series is penciled and inked by Stephen Sharar, colored by Sean Seal, and edited and lettered by Joshua Werner. With covers inked by Mark McKenna (X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man, Justice League, Batman)!
*STRETCH GOALS ANNOUNCED*
- $3,000 = Everyone at $10 tiers and above will receive a free print of the cover art (without logos) by artist Mark McKenna (Batman, X-Men, Justice League, Spider-Man), Stephen Sharar, and Sean Seal.
- $4,000 = Everyone at $10 tiers and above will receive a free copy of Up the River #2!
The goal of this campaign is to secure the funding necessary to print, ship, and distribute Up the River #1. Any additional funds will go towards marketing Up the River to help spread the word, and towards the printing of issue #2. We’re incredibly excited about what’s been created, and we know people will love it; we just need your help to get it off the ground.
While we can't know the exact final costs of everything until we know how many people will go for which rewards, here is a chart showing the approximate breakdown of what the money will go to if we reach the $2,000.
As you can see, there's a small sliver in this pie chart set aside for marketing, which is quite necessary to the future success of Up the River. But depending on which rewards people choose over others, it's quite possible that the rewards costs could overtake the money for marketing. This is why additional money made past the point of 2,000 will first go towards marketing, and then hopefully even more can go towards funding issue #2.
Ready to hear about the rewards? We think you guys will like them, there's some really cool stuff in here! There are 12 different tiers total, including one specifically for retailers who are interested in trying Up the River #1 out in their stores.
Here it is, your first look at the cover of the comic, penciled by Stephen Sharar, inked by Mark McKenna, colored by Sean Seal!

Risks and challenges
There won't be any obstacles in regards to the finishing of Issue #1, as it's 90% complete as we speak and getting closer to done each day. And with the funding of this Kickstarter the printing and shipping processes will not be an issue. The real obstacles that the comic book will face will be getting the word out there about it, so as to secure sales for the print run and thereby creating the funds necessary to print the next issue, and the issue after that, etc. This is an obstacle we intend to face head on. While Source Point Press is quite indie and on a shoe-string budget, we all believe in this book, and it deserves to be seen. With your help, we can spread the word about Up the River throughout social media, digital platforms, marketing and advertising, and the old-school way: through word of mouth. Great stories create great conversation, which in turn will lead to the sales necessary to ensure this title reaches its full 21 issue run so this amazing tale can be told.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
