Hi, we're Bloom!
We are a band that is totally dedicated to increasing “world awesome” and decreasing “world suck” – and the time has come to produce our SECOND ALBUM and GO ON TOUR!
We reached our initial funding goal in just 32 and 1/2 hours. That means, it's time for...
We'd like to tell you a little story about Bloom...
Once upon a time, there was this scrawny nerd named Joshua Voiles.
One night, after a lovely evening of guitar practice, he happened to stumble upon a super-tall, lanky kid who was playing the piano at a graduation ceremony.
But man, oh, man could this lanky kid sing!
In fact, his voice sent fluttery butterflies down Joshua's spine.
When he was done playing, Joshua rushed up to the super-tall, lanky-kid and gently yelled in his face, "DUDE, WE NEED TO MAKE SOME EARTH-SHAKING MUSIC TOGETHER!"
And lanky-boy enthusiastically replied, "Sounds good. I'm Jeremy Finlay, by the way."
So they teamed up with a long-time friend and amazing musician, Wally Allred. This dude used to be featured on MySpace Karaoke just about every single week. No joke. He's just that good.
Together, they endeavored to write music that genuinely moved people and challenged them to learn, grow, and fulfill their true potential.
So, independent of a record-label, they cracked open their piggy banks, borrowed whatever they couldn't buy, and decided to produce an album.
Once they had 10 songs written, rehearsed, and ready to record, they crammed themselves into Wally and Joshua's motor carriages and made the 12-hour trek from Salt Lake City Utah to Portland Oregon.
And that’s where they hooked-up with the profoundly awesome Kris Crummett (recording engineer and producer extraordinaire) and with his assistance, they banged out their first album titled, "Photosynthesis." (Kris really is boss…)
Then they got Mari's fantabulously-talented, childhood friend Sarah to do the artwork for them – and it turned out lovely.
Once the album was released, it sold hundreds of copies within the first few days! The boys were thrilled...
Plus, their song, "Fight For Greatness" ended up being one of the very first playable tracks on the Rock Band 3 Video Game Network for XBOX and PlayStation 3. It was one of the first songs to feature PRO keys.
It was so rad to play their own tunes in a video game!
But then, just as things just started to get rolling for Bloom – tragedy struck!
Wally fell in love, got married, and went on a 6-month-long honeymoon in Costa Rica. (Who does that?!)
So Bloom kind of… well… just stopped blooming.
Jeremy went back to his job at a boring call center – taking customer service calls… and Joshua went back to writing. How's that for a happy ending?
But little did they know... something was brewing under the surface...
Some time ago, this lovely lady called Mari Voiles had stumbled upon the world-class drummer, Mike Portnoy. She saw a video of him completely killing it on a monster drum kit and it blew her away.
Ever since then, she dreamed of becoming an amazing drummer. But truth is, Mari just didn't believe in herself – she didn't think she could pull it off. So nothing really became of it.
...Until Bloom broke up.
Mari was a big fan of Bloom’s music – and when she heard they broke-up she thought, “what a bummer…” But instead of just wallowing in disappointment, what it really did was light a fire in her, and she determined, “I'm not gonna stand back and let this happen!"
That’s when she committed herself to learning Bloom's songs backwards and forwards on the drums. She practiced every day, hours upon hours, with a single goal in mind... reviving Bloom and becoming Bloom's drummer.
But every time she brought the idea of her playing for the band up, they kept shooting her down with all these lame reasons why it couldn't possibly work out.
Mari just used these rejection as more fuel for her fire. She didn’t let their lame reasons discourage her. Instead, she just kept practicing. And eventually (after a lot of cajoling) Mari finally convinced them to just TRY it... just sit with her and jam some Bloom songs.
And guess what?
She freaking killed it!
In fact, it turns out, Mari was exactly what Bloom needed. She was the swift kick in our heart's ass that got us to start playing music again.
And to top it all off, there’s even more good news: Wally flew back to the states, and re-joined Bloom... but this time he’s ripping up the bass guitar!
Excited to be living the Bloom life again, we went straight to work.
Joshua wrote a song called, "The Fault In Our Stars", inspired by the best-selling author John Green. We posted it on YouTube in support of one of our favorite charities, and have since raised $895.93 (and counting!)
John Green's brother, Hank Green, shared it on his Tumblr, and more and more people started paying attention to us.
In fact, even though he almost certainly doesn't realize it and it's more just a funny story to share than anything else - Bloom's music even got heard by the top-grossing actor, Tom Hanks when he watched and shared Joshua's video review about Cloud Atlas on his Facebook and Twitter:
But since then, we've had hundreds of people sharing with us the impact our music has made in their lives, along with loads of requests for new music.
So Now We're Gonna Do It!
We're going to make a brand-new, full-length studio album, and expand on our vision of increasing “world awesome”.
...And then go on TOUR!
We already have a bunch of songs written (over 40!), and have performed a few of them locally. A few tentative song titles include, "Arising," "Stand With Me," and "Permanently Temporary."
We have also written a rehearsed a full-band version of "The Fault In Our Stars" - and it's pretty freaking epic!
However, for the new album, we want to narrow it down to a strong dozen or so, probably a little less. So we'll hand-select just a few of the best songs we've written over the years, and write the rest from scratch. It just feels best that way.
If you'd like a small taste of the new Bloom sound...
A few weeks ago, we released a pre-production version of one of our songs on YouTube, and Bloomers across the planet loved it!
Now we're going to lock ourselves in the Bloom Room and write, and start blasting our new music out to the world as soon we possibly can.
And that's where you come in :)
We need YOUR help to get this new album professionally produced and distributed!
Your money will help us pay for:1. Hiring a talented and professional engineer who will record and produce our new music.2. Getting our new album professionally mixed and mastered so that it sounds like a rainbow flowing through you ears :)3. Risks and challenges
It's been three years since we released our first album, and we want this one to be something special.
With that being said, we want to make sure that the producer we team up with is a great fit for our style of music. It's possible there may be some scheduling conflicts that arise, since it's outside of our control when our desired producer may or may not be available. What this would mean is that it might take longer to get the album produced than anticipated. However, we don't foresee this being a problem, only a potentiality.
The only other challenge we can see cropping up is choosing which songs will end up on the album, and which ones won't. As it stands, we already have 40 songs written, and it's hard to pick which are the strongest.
We'll turn to our Bloomers and our Backers for feedback and input every step of the way!
Let's make it happen :)Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
