About this project
What is Bodoink?
Bodoink is an XBLA Kinect game where you are dropped into a pinball-like environment. Control your very own Xbox Avatar to pop as many pegs as possible while getting knocked around by pistons, conveyor belts, and teleporters. Earn higher scores by increasing your Color Chain Multiplier in order to out-perform your family and friends and rise to the top of the online leaderboards.
Kinect Family Fun
Bodoink is designed to be enjoyed by the whole family, kids, parents, grandparents. If you can get the dog upright, we're sure she'd have a blast too! No difficult controls to deal with, you are using the power of Kinect to perform moves that come naturally within seconds of play.
What's our plan?
In video-game development, we get the game to be playable as quickly as possible so people can experience it. Then we iterate on it until the foundation is complete. That foundation is 80% of the game. The real magic happens in the final 20% where final polish happens.
Best analogy is making a cake. You have the recipe, you mix your ingredients and bake the cake. It comes out and it's a tasty foundation. That is the 80%. What makes a great cake is the frosting, the decorations, etc. That is what you are funding with Kickstarter, the final push for big fun. This is where we get really goofy and creative and the game takes a whole new life of its own. Join us!
Robomite's normal mode of business is to create games with publisher funding. Normally the publisher will commission a developer to create a game, pay them for it, distribute it and retain all rights.
With Bodoink it's all about controlling the game from beginning to end. Many developers opt to create a prototype to help get more funds. With Kickstarter it's all about finishing the entire project. Once the game is completed, it is much easier to maintain control over rights to the game as it is being shown to publishers for distribution.
Kickstarter also allows the community to contribute to the project. We want to incorporate our Kickstarters creativity into the game by providing opportunities to vote on features as well as design important features of the game such as achievements. We even want to see your face on a peg and make you steaks!
Why the need for a publisher?
One might ask, why go to a publisher at all with digital distribution. We want to make sure this is a professional level XBLA game and that requires a publisher for access. There is a place for non-published games but it is very hard for games to stand out in that area.
Publishers will also give marketing and final QA to the game which we are not including in this funding. All of the funds from Kickstarter is going into final polishing of the game.
As far as we know, we are going to be the first console game that will be funded by Kickstarter. We love this challenge and want to show other developers like us that given the right resources and savvy, a professional console game can be created by this community.
Who is Robomodo/Robomite?
The members of Robomodo have worked on esteemed franchises such as Tony Hawk,Fight Night, WWE and Mortal Kombat. Over the years, the team has gained great insight on motion gaming and is pouring all the knowledge in to Bodoink.
In 2011, Robomite was created to be the family games label of Robomodo. The Bodoink team will be working under Robomite as part of the family fun focus.
The Bodoink team is an awesome mix of veteran and rookie developers all marching to the goal of making a great professional product. The haggard veterans keep an eye on the exuberant whippersnappers to make sure things don't go completely off the rails. The youngsters in return show the old fogies some fresh new ideas in return. A great set up for success!
