In 2010 we started making our first album of new material in over ten years, and now, after over a year of recording, guitar, bass, drums, tamborine, Hammond B3, Fender Rhodes, violin and cello playing, singing, overdubbing, and singing bowl rubbing, it's almost ready to drop, but we need your help.
We'd like to release this album on our own label. Our $8500 goal is to go towards compensating our amazing, generous, and patient producer Billy Burke, pay for mastering, photography and art direction, the manufacturing of 1,000 CDs, and to pay for a great publicist to get the word out and spread the gospel.
On this album founding member Josh Haden reprises his role as bassist/vocalist, Daniel Brummel (formerly of the band Ozma) plays electric and acoustic guitars, Randy Kirk plays guitar and a variety of keyboards, and Matt Mayhall plays drums and percussion. Violin great Petra Haden and cello great Tanya Haden (Josh's sisters) appear for the first time since playing on our debut 1995 album "Blue Moods of Spain". Also for the first time, a song on the album is sung by someone other than Josh (Daniel for his epic "All I Can Give").
We've been working on this album for almost a year-and-a-half now, and we're really excited about it. There are songs that conjure memories of Spain's first three albums (the slowcore romanticism of "I Love You", the country balladry of "Without A Sound", the midtempo rush of "I'm Still Free", and the mystic mantra drone of "All I Can Give"), and there are other songs that might suprise longtime listeners and lure new fans into the preternatural fold. After funding is secured, we can start planning to bring the songs live to a town near you, our first world tour since 1999.
