Who is Jookbox City?
Jookbox City is a Hawaii-based reggae-pop band: hyper-energetic front-man and keyboardist, Rawnie Lovely; his partner in rhyme, Kahnma K filling out the vocals with powerful melodies and ethereal harmonies; supported by Aaron "Dubalator" Friedman on bass and a revolving cast of Oahu's finest drummers.
We've been playing together for a little over a year and in addition to our loyal following in Hawaii, we have gained fans across the globe including mainland US, Japan, New Zealand, Guam, Sudan, Panama, Philippines, and Italy. They've purchased our singles, watched our videos on YouTube, played our songs on Spotify, and so far we've managed this simply through grass-roots efforts. We're encouraged by the people who are seeking us out to listen to our music, but for us to continue connecting with potential fans, we need funding. This is where we need your help.
So, what am I helping to fund?
1) CD production
We recently spent a number of sleepless nights to produce the perfect album, that then needs to be mastered and sent to a pressing house create a professionally replicated CD. And unfortunately, it's expensive to ship to an island in the middle of the Pacific.
2) Public Relations
We like what we do. We're encouraged by the positive response we've gotten from our Hawaii fans. So we plan to hire a Public Relations guru to help us with publicity so that we can reach more listeners.
3) West Coast Tour
Our music sounds great coming outta your speakers, but we want the opportunity to perform live and share it with you in person! A portion of the funding will go toward the hard costs associated with touring including transportation costs, stage equipment, hiring a crew, etc. For our first tour in the late summer/early fall we plan to go to Arizona, Las Vegas and up the West Coast from San Diego to Seattle. Our long term goal is to continue touring and to bring our music around the world!
When you donate, everyone wins! Look to the right to see the incentives.
Kickstarter is where you can ensure you'll get the album a full month before anyone else does and it's the only place where you can get a digital download of “Kill 'Em With Dub,” the dub mix of the album.
As you move up the tiers, the rewards get even better – from Skype sessions to exclusive concerts to a private beach barbeque.
Snag a hot, handmade bikini here too. (Beautiful model not included.)
Get your hands on a signed canvas print from Kahnma K's brother, artist Maxwell Dixon. These are just four of the many options:
When you donate you'll be getting serious amounts of swag and we'll be getting funding. So let's get to it.
Risks and challenges
Writers block could occur when we try writing your special song.
There might not be palm trees at the beach we decide to barbeque at. If you purchase the Skype concert and you live in a time zone outside of Hawaii, there will likely be some back-and-forth coordination.
After two music lessons, you might decide you don't like playing the keyboard, guitar or bass.
You might not believe how hot you look in your Earth Angel bikini.
The CD we send could get lost in the mail. (If that actually happens, we'll resend it.)
The CD is already completed, so there's no risk that it'll go unfinished., And we enjoy playing live, so there's no chance that we won't want to go on tour.
