I got my book, stickers, buttons, and mini today! I'm so delighted to see this show up - this project was the very first thing I backed on Kickstarter. I'm also so glad for Jon to be finishing this project at last. I imagine it must have felt like quite a burden for the last couple years, and I'm glad Jon will be able to move on from it to whatever lies ahead.
I got my book, stickers, and all! Thank you!
We're getting ready to ship the first couple of tiers. Right now I'm waiting to hear back from Make That Thing about final costs and I'll have them begin as soon as possible. I'll let you know when that happens.
Any more news on shipping?
I had a moment of snarkiness, and then though, you know, it's taken longer than expected, but I'm still happy it's happening, and had I known the actual timeline at backing, I would still have backed it.
Keep on keeping on Jon.
Is it too late to change my survey response? I just moved to the States...
[You'll be swell, you'll be great...]
Everything's coming up Rosen!
Yup. I have to apologize for this. Unfortunately we ran out of Corndog and Showcase a couple of months ago, there was a miscommunication about stock levels and I wasn't informed we were low until they were already gone.
I have a few cases of both books here in my office, which I'll be using to fulfill as many orders as i can, starting with the folks who ordered a full set of books.
I've added the SFAM books and the Goats Silver books as options in the hopes of making up for the lack of Corndog and Showcase. I'd like to reprint them someday but that's going to require an inventment and probably another Kickstarter, which I won't inflict on you until we're mostly done fulfilling this one.
Again, I apologize. This was one of many screwups on my part. This has been an educational experience, to be certain.
No Corndog on the survey. Is that due to stock availability? This is not ...imperative.
One thing at a time. I'm not superhuman.
Did you see the update I posted last night? We are almost at the finish line! Please give me a few more weeks, we will be ready to ship as soon as I am recovered from surgery.
It's going on 3 years. I'm sure the money you raised is long spent. I didn't mean for my $119 donation to hold you indentured servitude for ever. Please take everything owed to firstname.lastname@example.org off your list. Thank you and good luck.
That I don't have an answer for. I'm hoping to start it up once all the rewards have been shipped. It'll be about two or three years after that until it's done with a one-page-per-week schedule.
The minis should be arriving soon, I'm hoping to start shipping everything in January after I recover from my upcoming surgery.
Do you know what the timescale is likely to be for continuing/finishing goats?
Piecing together the Good Hitler mini tonight. This is the home stretch. Hoping to have PDFs for you guys very soon.
Peter, I update every time there is a change in status. I posted the inks of those pages not long ago and when the colors are done I'll post those too. I wish things were progressing at a faster pace but circumstances only permit so much. I promise I'll have more for you when I've recovered from surgery.
December 2012: "Feel free to keep lighting fires under my ass." I'm taking the liberty to do just that. Jon, communication is key here: you're 24/7 on twitter, yet your backers have to beg for updates. We know that delays can happen, but please, try to be more open about your plans to finish the kickstarter. A return to regular status updates, like you did way back in 2013, would be much appreciated.
I had two fairly intense medical procedures this week, which means I've had less time than I'd like. I'll try to work on this over the weekend if I can but I'm recovering from surgery so please cut me a bit of slack.
23 September *2013*: "I need to draw two more pages of the mini and then assemble the other bits and pieces for printing. Should take me a free weekend to finish up."
Please let this be that weekend.
I believe in Jonathan Rosenberg.
I'm at a convention this weekend, I'll have an update for you guys in a week or so once I get back and get caught up. Sorry!
Hey Jon, any progress?
Sure thing, Rorus! Give me a few days to make a bit more progress so I have something new to show you guys.
Any chance for a September update?
Take into consideration the worst case household scenario like you currently have. Figure how much time it will take to finish the Goats stuff (minus the acrylic painting and travel delivery). Then tell the Patreon supporters (me included) that SFAM will need a 'x long' hiatus within the Patreon system why and that you hope they will still continue supporting you. Maybe cut SFAM to once/twice a month if you can squeeze it in while finishing Goats.
The important thing is to figure out how much time you'll need with all Hell going on, unfortunately, so if things are gong well you can be that much more productive.
On Patreon, be open and honest, give the worst length of time, and ask for their understanding of the situation. I would guess many are Goats fans who transitioned to SFAM and would be okay with it, especially if they pledged here. And if they read your tweets they, like I, must wonder how you're able to do SFAM with all that's going on in your life.
That's my suggestion. Hope it helps. You know I'll still support you.
I've also had to reconsider shutting down SFAM to work on this, I have an obligation to Patreon users to publish, but I also have an obligation to you guys -- not sure how to resolve that. Any suggestions are welcome.
Mostly it's been a whirlwind of sickness -- my kids all got sick and then I was sick for about three weeks (on multiple meds now). So, not much to report. Let me see if I can show you something in a week.
So, how's it going? It's been two months since your last update.
Yes! I did say that. Let me figure out which week is the best week to do this and I'll get going on that. Thanks for the reminder.
So, about that comment below about focusing on Goats exclusively if you weren't done by the end of June...
I hear you. I have two pages left to draw, plus the cover and layout miscellany. I could get the whole thing done in 3-4 days, if such a thing existed. Right now I'm averaging about 1-2 days behind my regular schedule, so finding that time has been difficult. Today, for example, I had to bring Alec to therapy, and then he was sent home early from day care with a fever, so I lost a full day of productivity. This sort of thing is not uncommon.
I'll make you a deal: if I'm not able to find the time to finish it by the end of June I'll shut down SFAM and focus exclusively on the kickstarter until it's done. Deal?
Do we have any kind of date we can expect the mini-comic to be done? It's been a year and 2 months since the project was funded. I know this kind of thing will take time, but time has passed, I imagine along with most of your backer's good will. If it still isn't started then it really has to either become your priority or be abandoned.
How can I change my shipping address? I've moved since I backed this project.
I don't have an exact date, shortly after the mini is done.
Can we have an update on when the physical books will be shipped out?
Sure thing, David. I'll try and put together a comprehensive list of what's been accomplished and what's left to do. I was going to try and work on the mini this afternoon, but I'll prioritize this instead.
"This project was successfully funded on Mar 23, 2012"....
Could we get a new update?
Nothing of interest -- still looking for that magic window where I'll have enough time to finish the mini. Hopefully next week.
Hey, today is the second anniversary of the Goats kickstarter! Any news?
Go Jon Go! Make Printing HAPPEN! We believe in you!
Not much to update, holidays were hectic. I have a few smallish projects that need to be finished and then I'll finish up the mini. Shipping will begin after that gets printed. I'll post an update in the next week or so when I have more to let you know about.
Hi, Jon. Could you update us on the Kickstarter?
Any updates on when the books will ship?
I'm currently reposting all the color comics to the new goats site (http://www.goats.com). Once we're all caught up I'm hoping to start doing new comics at a rate of about a page a week. I want to get started as well but posting the archives is time-consuming and I want to also give new readers a chance to catch up.
Hope that helps, let me know if you still have any concerns.
Hey Jon, any word on when we might see Goats happening again? I think that is what most of us really truly wanted when we pledged to this kickstarter a year and a half ago. The rewards are nice and all, but not the real meat. Seems like a common problem with kickstarters - the creator gets so swamped doing the rewards that the core cause loses out. I follow SFAM, and saw your latest post looking for patrons ( http://amultiverse.com/comic/2013/12/09/a-modest-request-for-help/ ). I'll likely sign up - a buck a month is great value for SFAM, but I'll double it the second the Goats starts to flow.
Once I finish the mini (on my plate right now) and get them printed we'll ship the books. USB thumbdrives will follow afterwards so we don't delay the shipping of the rest of the rewards any further.
Any update on when the books and USB thumb drives will ship?
