Have a question?
Hey Jon, not a bother buddy, you guys have def got more important things going on just now. Best of luck to the wee guy for his surgery
Hi Philip! No new news, I've been very focused on my son's upcoming surgery:
I'm taking a sabbatical to help him with his recovery and physical therapy. Once he's home, I'm hoping I'll have some time to work on the remaining Kickstarter rewards while I'm off from comics. I'll let you know when I know more.
Hi Jon, I was just wondering how stuff's going for the remaining rewards?
No problem, I'd update more often but there's not much to tell at the moment. I'm going to come up with a plan this week.
Thank you, and I'm so sorry to have prodded. Best of luck with everything; you guys have properly been in the wars.
Been trying to schedule a surgery for my son, it's made planning a bit difficult. I'm recruiting some help (i.e. my wife has agreed to help save my ass), we're discussing the best way to tackle the remaining rewards. Once we have a plan I'll let you know.
I'm really sorry to prod, but... the 8%?
Thanks, I appreciate that. I'm going to do my best, I promise. My best may end up sucking but it's all I have to give.
Hey Jon, sorry if you got the impression I was pissed. I'm really not, and I'm not asking for a refund. I've been a Goats fan from close to the very beginning and it's still one of my all time favourite webcomics. I recently went back to the beginning and read it all again. Really spectacularly amazing to see how far you've come as an artist. I guess I've just been hoping for a long long time to see where it goes. Whether it's writers block, or trouble in your personal life, or a massive learning experience about how much effort kickstarter rewards can take, it doesnt really matter. Hearing that you are still planning on continuing the series is great news. Fingers crossed, and good luck.
Hey Anomalous. The Kickstarter was about printing a book. If you were focused on one of the stretch goals, then I apologize. I have a lot of excuses as to why I haven't started the series back up yet but I own't bore you with them, I fucked up and my schedule has been shit for years now and I'm not in control of my own life in the way I'd like to be. I also encountered some story issues that I think I've resolved but I have to tell you I was anxious to return to it for a long time, and that's no state in which to make good comics.
That said, I want to finish the story. I'd give you a date but I've learned that good intentions do not create the conditions for work to get done. My hope is to draw the first new strip in the next two months but this is just an estimate -- I lost most of December and January and who knows what's coming next.
If you're super-pissed let me know in an email and I'll refund your money. I'm very sorry. I sound like a broken record but it's true. I'm not trying to pull one over on you, I promise, I just an very bad at life right now.
Hey Jon, for me, it was never about the rewards. It was about seeing the continuation of the story. I backed the project for that reason alone. In the comment below about "wanting to finish this thing badly" the context seemed to be about wanting to finish the /story/ badly. as you said in that post, you didnt want a forced conclusion, which is a great plan, but how close are we to some actual new comics? any closer than a year ago? If the answer is no, and realistically we will never see the continuation of Goats, then I can accept that. But maybe you should just say that if that is the case.
Anomalous, looking further into this situation I see that you received links to download your rewards, which were all digital, which i sent to you in a message in 2013. If this is not correct please let me know.
Anomalous, 92% of the rewards have gone out so I wouldn't call it doomed. I was hoping to start signing, sketching and shipping again in January but my kids took turns getting sick and I lost a couple of weeks. I'm hoping next week will be kinder to me. If you're impatient and don't want to wait send me a message and I'll refund your money.
Hi Jon, You said, a little over a year ago, that you "needed to finish this thing badly". Its now been 5 (five!) years since myself and a bunch of other fans pushed a pile of cash your way to make this happen. Were we dreaming? Was this always a doomed project? Any chance of a real, honest, update on the likelihood the story will ever have another chapter?
Any updates for the remaining 8%? Haven't heard anything in a while.
Aaron, we're in the home stretch. I'm pulling original art, signing prints and signing the last batch of books this week and next. Then I'll send everything to Massachusetts To be shipped. I'll let you know when there's more to know!
Any updates on shipping out the remaining rewards?
I'm in the research phase, rereading all the comics, making notes, filling in plot details, making sure it's good enough to ask you to spend your time reading it. I'd like to give you an exact date but I can't, it's not that kind of process. It can't be forced, or rather, a forced conclusion will leave everyone disappointed. It's going to be sooner rather than later because I NEED to finish this story. Badly.
Longtime reader, first time commentator. any update on the Goats resumption/completion?
Huh, just got an email from Make That Thing, they're shipping my Infinite Pendergast reward, but for some reason they said it was from an Kickstarter called The Enthusiast: A Novel By Josh Fruhlinger?
Jason, I'm going to get in touch with Make That Thing and find out why you haven't gotten your rewards yet, those tiers should have shipped. Have you contacted me about this before? I'm sorry if I failed to resolve your issue then. If this is the first time you're bringing it to my attention I hope you'll give me a chance to resolve it now, but you're welcome to a full refund at any time.
I understand you are still trying to find time to sign things but my reward does not require anything signed. Could Make That Thing deliver rewards that do not require signatures? I am having trouble understanding the issues here. On a side note, if we hit four years from the funding date without a reward, when do you just start sending money back?
Shane, I'm trying to find a good couple of days where I can go up to Massachusetts to continue signing books. I'll let you know in the next few days when that is going to be.
Any updates on shipping? I pledged for the Infinite Pendergast Edition, so I'm not expecting anything signed or customized, but I haven't seen the tier mentioned in any of the shipping notices.
Received too the Complete Edition (in France). Nice books and a lot of very nice goodies. Thanks :)
My Complete edition arrived today. I am thrilled to bits.
I had forgotten about all of the buttons and magnets and such. I was really only anticipating my set of signed books and Diablo action figure. All of the extra bits and bobs are just icing on the cake.
The books look great by the way.
Hey Jon - I ordered the Original Gansta edition. As you're looking over strips, I'd like something from April 7, 2004 or thereabouts. Or really anything with Fish in a beer mug.
Got my book today, re-read them all tonight, and it convinced me to kick a few dollars a month your way via Patreon. Looking forward to the return of Goats, whenever that is!
My book just arrived and everything looks gorgeous. Thanks!
Ty, that's correct, the OG tier has not shipped yet. I've sent you a message regarding your address.
So I'm to assume that if I did the O.G. backer level that nothing will have shipped to me, correct? Just asking because I haven't seen anything. I guess I can't even remember which address I asked to ship to. Hopefully my house since I'm not long for this current job. Is there any way to check that?
AnderMoney, I've sent your address update to Make That Thing! If all goes according to plan, they'll make the change and send it to the correct address.
I had to update my address today because I will have moved before the USB drives go out. Is that too late? Is there a risk of it going to my old address?
I'm thinking on it now. I have to go back and reread everything to make it fresh in my mind, and then figure out a few plot details. I wish I could tell you how long that will take. I'm hoping no more than a couple of months.
Any chance of Goats resuming anytime soon? even one comic a month would be great...
We had a delay with the USB drives, should have them in a few days and then shipping will resume.
Any updates on shipping?
I got my book, stickers, buttons, and mini today! I'm so delighted to see this show up - this project was the very first thing I backed on Kickstarter. I'm also so glad for Jon to be finishing this project at last. I imagine it must have felt like quite a burden for the last couple years, and I'm glad Jon will be able to move on from it to whatever lies ahead.
I got my book, stickers, and all! Thank you!
We're getting ready to ship the first couple of tiers. Right now I'm waiting to hear back from Make That Thing about final costs and I'll have them begin as soon as possible. I'll let you know when that happens.
Any more news on shipping?
I had a moment of snarkiness, and then though, you know, it's taken longer than expected, but I'm still happy it's happening, and had I known the actual timeline at backing, I would still have backed it.
Keep on keeping on Jon.
Is it too late to change my survey response? I just moved to the States...
[You'll be swell, you'll be great...]
Everything's coming up Rosen!
Yup. I have to apologize for this. Unfortunately we ran out of Corndog and Showcase a couple of months ago, there was a miscommunication about stock levels and I wasn't informed we were low until they were already gone.
I have a few cases of both books here in my office, which I'll be using to fulfill as many orders as i can, starting with the folks who ordered a full set of books.
I've added the SFAM books and the Goats Silver books as options in the hopes of making up for the lack of Corndog and Showcase. I'd like to reprint them someday but that's going to require an inventment and probably another Kickstarter, which I won't inflict on you until we're mostly done fulfilling this one.
Again, I apologize. This was one of many screwups on my part. This has been an educational experience, to be certain.
No Corndog on the survey. Is that due to stock availability? This is not ...imperative.
One thing at a time. I'm not superhuman.
Did you see the update I posted last night? We are almost at the finish line! Please give me a few more weeks, we will be ready to ship as soon as I am recovered from surgery.
It's going on 3 years. I'm sure the money you raised is long spent. I didn't mean for my $119 donation to hold you indentured servitude for ever. Please take everything owed to firstname.lastname@example.org off your list. Thank you and good luck.
