The Journey of the Ornamental Self
In July of this year I will be traveling to North Adams, MA, with a number of my drawings to participate in an exhibition during this years "Down Street Art" festival. The exhibition titled "A Social Geography of Hair" has been curated by Izabel Galliera and will feature the work of 4 artists including myself. I have prepared a number of drawings from my "Ornamental Self" series for this event and am working on 6 drawings created in collaboration with salons and barbershops in the area. In addition to the exhibition, I will participating in an artist panel that will focus on the role that hair plays in cultural and personal identity, as well as spending a day at Gravity Press, an experimental printshop that specializes in monoprints.
I have created a number of exciting rewards to thank you for helping me to fund my project and I hope that you will help me to reach my goal. Since my works are framed I have decided to drive them to North Adams myself rather than crating and ship them. The money I hope to raise will cover the travel expenses I will have during my journey such as gas and food. Any additional money that is donated will be used to help me cover the costs of this exhibition, including framing, materials, and probably more gas stops that I have planned for.
