Panzer Attack: War in Russia

Welcome to a two player card game of World War 2 combat on an epic scale that has been nearly 20 years in the making!
Panzer Attack: War in Russia (PA:WiR) is the product of my obsession with World War 2 history, wargaming, and artwork. The story of the game actually begins back in 1995 while I was in high school, and was very much a student of military history and a hardcore tabletop gamer that was growing into a promising future as an artist.
I began toying with the idea of creating a WW2-themed card game, because at the time I couldn't find the kind of card game on the subject that I wanted to play. I soon developed a basic set of rules and an initial set using 3x5 index cards, and based gameplay on my experience with such games as Panzer General, Magic: The Gathering, and the Star Trek Customizable Card Game.
I wanted a game that involved distinct troop and equipment types used in the war, but I also wanted it to feel like it was all happening on a grand scale. And in the end, after countless hours of tweaking, rewriting, and new additions to the core gameplay, I feel like I finally hit on a winning combination of fast and fun play combined with an easily-learned rule set and massive scope to create a game that others would want to play.
But fate took me in a different direction after high school, and instead of my dream of attending Pratt or Ringling to develop as an artist and get Panzer Attack published, I instead went into the US Army and spent the next ten years of my life as an infantryman and intelligence analyst. PA:WiR, much like my artistic career on the whole, was put on hold. But the idea never died, and I knew its time would come eventually. Here we are today, and my hope is that the time for Panzer Attack is now!
For anyone familiar with most collectable and/or deck-building card games out there, Panzer Attack will seem eerily familiar, yet original.
Gameplay in PA centers around the capture and control of territory cards, which are laid out in linear fashion to form the game board.
Players take turns organizing their forces, attacking the opposing player's forces, capturing territories, and using resources under their control to build new troops and units.
Each player has both generic and side-specific action and leader cards that add historical flavor and a hidden layer of strategy to the game, with effects that have the potential to turn the tide of a game, or cement a player's victory.
Players alternate taking turns, where each can move their troops and units on the board, attack with them, play action or leader cards, and also repair troops or units, and produce new troops.
A game continues with each player alternating turns until a player either a) captures all territories in play or b) destroys all enemy troop and unit cards in play, at which point that player wins!
So what's included in the core pledge?
When you pledge at the Panzer Commander level or above, you receive one or more (depending on your pledge level) copies of the full game. Each game contains 162 cards, which is enough for a full two player game. The basic game deck includes:
94x Troop Cards
18x Territory Cards
30x Action Cards
8x Unit Cards
12x Leader Cards
For those wanting even more cards to add greater customization options, additional game decks can be purchased and as the Kickstarter campaign progresses, more cards will be unlocked and add-ons will become available to expand the basic game even further!
Still not sure about pledging? No problem! Click the 'Remind Me' link at the top of the project, and also watch our progress on Kicktraq!
So for me, this is by far the most exciting part of this campaign! Once we're fully funded, we immediately unlock the initial five expansion packs as add-on purchases, which instantly expand on the basic game. And with each successive milestone hit, we can deliver some really cool extras that keep expanding gameplay, some of which will be exclusive to you, our Kickstarter backers!
Once the game is fully funded, we immediately unlock seven add-on expansion packs available to bring even more action and variety to your Panzer Attack games!
For those that wish to purchase all of the expansions, you'll receive a discount! Simply add $25 to your existing pledge to receive all 162 expansion cards with your core Panzer Attack game!
Shown below is a chart detailing the development and production timeline of Panzer Attack, and milestones we plan on reaching at each step in the road to delivering the game to you, our backers:
The chart above shows How I envision the process of producing Panzer Attack for you, the backers. Since the core set cards are 100% complete and work on the expansion and exclusive cards is already about 40% complete, I feel like this timeline is extremely realistic in terms of what backers can expect.
The only variable I can't fully account for is the fulfillment process. I've backed enough campaigns to know that this can rapidly descend into a chaos of upset backers, missed deliverable due dates and shipping nightmares, so I've built what I feel is more than adequate time to prepare for that stage and prepare for any issues.
Assuming the campaign is successful, and depending largely on the scale of that success, I plan on utilizing a backer fulfillment solution in order to streamline the process, and I'm already reviewing options to scale up my ability to quickly process and ship rewards out to backers, should the need be there.
All things considered, I feel like I have a very strong and realistic handle on this process, and backers should feel very confident that this will be a Kickstarter project that they view as a pleasure to be a part of. Which leads us to...
Riesgos y desafíos
The risks and challenges for this project are straightforward and manageable. I've already discussed much that is relevant to this topic in the timeline section above, but let's look further at the risks involved.
Since the game has evolved through constant testing and revision intermittently over more than a decade, the gameplay itself has reached a high level of fine tuning. Also, I have obtained several samples from companies for actual production and packaging elements of the game, and am confident that this aspect of the project is likewise well in hand.
The only true risk lay in the effort still required to complete the planned cards, and all of the core set cards are complete. Work remains on the expansion cards, but this process is already well along and moving rapidly.
Should the campaign be wildly successful and allow for original artwork on all the cards, the sheer amount of art that needs to be created for all the game cards will turn out to be a serious obstacle, but this may be alleviated by commissioning additional outside artists to create some of the artwork, should the Kickstarter reach the necessary funding goal.
