About

Whiteboards are awesome because people crave pictures. Pictures are easier to understand on the fly, and get your message across faster.

We want whiteboards to be everywhere you go... so we built a truly portable whiteboard.

The GoBoard is a portable whiteboard. Designed to easily go where-ever you need, it stands 64" (about 1.6m) tall when assembled, and folds down into a bag 28" (71cm) long. It weighs less than 8 lbs (3.5kg).

Complex things can be made simple with whiteboards. And GoBoards make sure you've always got one with you.

Over several years working in jobs teaching adults, I've always found whiteboards to be an amazing tool for learning, and for communication within groups. Being able to see an idea grow in front of you gives it a clarity that discussion alone doesn't achieve.

But whiteboards were big and bulky. Even the portable ones had big rigid parts that were impractical if you were ever trying to travel by plane, or even easily get between floors in the same building. I knew there must be something better. I looked for over a year to find something I could buy, but there was nothing. So we built it.

Originally, the design was for teachers, consultants, and salespeople. But during the prep weeks for this campaign, I've been inundated by people from many different vocations, everything from vets to government workers to tourism providers.

Technical specialists in a variety of fields have also been very excited about being able to have their own whiteboard that they can take to client meetings to assist in explanations and chart discussions.

It's for everyone!

Several prototypes have been completed, the last two were high quality design prototypes. The next step is a production run.

To do this, I need to get injection moulds and other machining parts made which have a high one-off cost. We've been through costing discussions with manufacturers and distributors, and our design company, and we are confident that a NZ$40,000 goal will be sufficient to get this over the line.

The diagram below shows the history of the GoBoard and the plan from here.

Risks and challenges

Bringing a new product to market is hard (look at the comments and updates for any successful Kickstarter campaign), and there can be unanticipated delays or changes.

To try and mitigate against the most common of these risks, we completed a significant amount of due diligence before we started the campaign. We got quotes from manufacturers, built and tested the product, confirmed shipping costs. We've partnered with people who have done this before, and have gathered as much information as we can for where we are in the process. We interviewed every successful campaign runner we could find, and got their hints and tips on what they learned.

While we can't make guarantees for things we can't control, we've done everything we can to make our time estimates realistic.

We do guarantee that if there are delays or hold ups, we'll communicate with you as soon as we have information (or before then, if there's something else useful to say).
