"If I Were" - It's a title filled with endless possibilities, and it's the title of my new album. "If I Were" is an R&B/Pop album that's made up of songs that are both fun and honest. They're melodies with a message. Today, we're asking for your help to give this album the support it needs to be the best it can be. We're seeking to raise at least $7,500 to get this album to you in the best way possible, and in exchange for your donation, you'll get exclusives that won't be available anywhere after the Kickstarter ends.
I hope you'll join me on this journey! You can hear my new song "Not for Me" in the video above, and read more about the project below!
My name is JONAVI, and I’ve been hooked on music since I was 4 years old. As I’ve matured, music has always been a huge part of my life. I’ve written songs for as long as I can remember. Songwriting allows me to craft stories and paint pictures with words and melodies. I love the idea that a complete stranger could hear one of my songs, and though we may be two totally different people, an understanding is created in that moment. In the last year, with the help of some incredibly talented musicians, I’ve written a full length album of original songs. These songs are so special to me; they’re like little windows into my life story.
Today, I come to you asking for support. Making an album is expensive. We’ve done our best through this entire process to be as wise as possible with the resources we do have, but unfortunately, these resources aren’t unlimited. We need to raise a minimum of $7,500 to finish this album and release it to the world, and we only have a short time to do it! Every dollar will go toward costs like mastering, disc production, photography, design, marketing, and the list goes on.
This is a daunting number, but I’m confident that with your help, we can achieve this goal and create something incredible that we can all enjoy together.
In addition, should we meet our goal before the 30 days is up, every penny received that exceeds the $7,500 goal doesn’t go to my pockets. Instead, it gets carefully reinvested in this project to allow us to take the album even further! We’ll share with you now our first stretch goal should we exceed our initial target:
$10,000 — MUSIC VIDEO for Not for Me! — In the age we live in, music videos are incredibly powerful in helping a song succeed commercially. If we reach this goal, the music video will become a reality!!
We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. For now, please check out the rewards we have to offer! There’s really something for everyone! And keep in mind that no donation is too small; we really appreciate every dollar.
I’ll keep you all updated as the Kickstarter progresses.
P.S. Keep reading to learn more about my single, "Not for Me" and some of the incredible people that made this all happen.
More about the single NOT FOR ME:
Last summer, I teamed up with producer/songwriter Joey Pore for the first time, and we ended up with one of the coolest songs called “Not for Me.” It’s a super fun, catchy tune that I know you’ll love. We were very careful to make it sound current, but still with a unique flare to it. The song was mastered by Tom Coyne, who has mastered some incredible albums like Taylor Swift’s 1989, Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour, Ariana Grande’s My Everything, and so many more. Tom's work on "Not for Me" really gave this lead single the polish that makes it stand tall. This is the kind of quality we knew we needed with “Not for Me,” and it’s the same quality we’re striving for with the rest of the album.
Here are the credits for “Not for Me,” followed by a few shoutouts:
Written by: Joey Pore & JONAVI // Produced, Engineered, and Mixed by: Joey Pore // Mastered by: Tom Coyne at Sterling Sound // Synthesizers and Programming by: Joey Pore // Saxophone Performed by: William Hood and Alex Sherman
A big shoutout goes to Nicollette Mollet for her incredible photography, and to Kate Yancey for doing an outstanding job with my hair and makeup for those looks. Thanks to Brandy Pham for letting me rock her stunning jewelry designs in the photoshoot, and Nha Khanh for letting me wear her beautiful clothing pieces.
The artwork for “Not for Me” was done by Kristi Krock, and she did a phenomenal job. The principal video footage / audio for the Kickstarter video was filmed and edited by Joey Pore, and all the other footage you see in the video was filmed and edited by Joshua Abaya.
You've seen his name a lot already, but a huge thanks to my manager, Joey Pore, for believing in me and making this all possible.
And last but certainly not least, I owe so much gratitude to my friends, family, and to everyone else who has supported and encouraged me thus far; I can't tell you how much your kind words mean to me.
Risks and challenges
The main risk of this endeavor is the “all or nothing” nature of it. Either we reach the goal, or we don’t. There’s no middle ground. This is actually quite similar to how we’ve approached working on this album. Either we do our very best and give it our all, or....well, nothing. We wouldn't be making an album if we didn't believe it could be 100%.
As far as challenges, we’ve learned from many of our peers in the industry who have completed Kickstarter campaigns in the past what we should be prepared for. We know that fulfillment can take some time. However, we’ve built in some cushion time into our timeline, and we’re confident that we can deliver the album by our estimated delivery of May 2016.
As far as the actual album is concerned, the bulk of the work and planning have already been done. We need time to perfect the recorded versions of each song and ensure that the quality is at its very best. Following this process, we'll send the tracks off to mastering, where they will get their polish and sheen, and then it will be ready for the world to enjoy! We estimate this process will take approximately 1-2 months, but as previously mentioned, we've built in some cushion time just in case!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
