I've been a black & white film photographer for almost a decade and in that time I've built up a working darkroom in my home (this is shown in the video). Two months ago, I moved house and I now need to build a new darkroom so I can continue my work.
After the build is completed, I will make sure the photographic community benefits from the investment by opening the darkroom to the public for a modest fee and advertising it on Local Darkroom.
The new darkroom will be equipped to handle:
- Black & white negative and reversal processing
- Film processing from Super 8 up to 5x4" in tanks (larger in trays)
- Enlargement from negatives up to 5x4"
- Contact printing from larger negatives than 5x4"
- Printing up to 16x12" in trays
- Printing up to 24x20" in troughs
I already have all the darkroom equipment I need, but I need your help with the up-front construction costs. I have a garage which will make an ideal space, but it needs insulation, worktops, electricity and plumbing to be installed. I will be doing as much of the work myself as possible, to keep costs down but I will still need to buy materials and employ a builder for some tasks.
Risks and challenges
I'm already part-way into this project: I already have the equipment, the consumables and the space. I just need to make the space suitable and this needs minor construction and fitting-out work.
As soon as the darkroom is up and running, I'll start contacting backers and distributing the rewards!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
